King’s Women’s Ice Hockey Drops First Game of Weekend Series at Chatham

LADY MONARCHS FALLS AT CHATHAM, 9-0

PITTSBURGH, PA --- The King's College women's ice hockey team dropped the first game of a two game weekend series 9-0 to Chatham University on Friday at Alpha Ice Complex in Pittsburgh.

The Lady Monarchs drop to 0-16-1 overall and 0-10-1 in United Collegiate Hockey Conference play while Chatham improves to 4-14-2 overall and 1-12-0 in the UCHC.

Chatham scored their first goal when Madison Black took advantage of a King's penalty with a power-play goal 12:56 into the game. The Cougars took a 2-0 lead into the second period when Kasandra Petersen knocked in her 11th goal of the year with one minute left in the period.

The Cougars broke the game open with six goals in the second. The first came 2:49 into the period by Holly Ackerman. Kristina Block then scored three straight goals over a span of 3:30 to give Chatham a 6-0 lead. Michelle Jones and Danielle Bos added goals in the final minute of the period to extend the advantage to 8-0 heading into the second intermission.

In the third period Chatham scored their final goal when Lyndsey Gallaway found the back of the net at the 6:29 mark.  

Josée Aitken led the Monarchs with five shots while Gracen Mahoney had three and Kelly Tuffy, Raeann Clancey, and Mary Deyell had two each. Anna Monsrud got the loss in her first career start in goal allowing six goals and making 22 saves in 31:18 minutes of action. Emma Zeveney made 28 saves in 28:42 minutes of relief action.

Kristina Block led the Cougars with three goals and one assist. Kasandra Petersen recorded five points on one goal and four assists while Marissa Janiga and Kirajean Frost had two assist each. Sydney Isbell recorded a shutout in goal making 16 saves.

The teams will wrap up the series on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. back at the Alpha Ice Complex in Pittsburgh.
