KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS LYCOMING, KIRSE TOSSES NINE-INNING TWO-HITTER IN NIGHTCAP
Kirse
WILLIAMSPORT -- The King's College softball team used solid pitching and timely hitting to post a doubleheader sweep of host Lycoming College Thursday in Williamsport.
With the win King's improved to 9-3 while Lycoming slipped to 2-6.
In the opener the teams were tied 2-2 when King's pushed across three runs in the top of the seventh.
Megan Beaupre went 3-for-4 with a RBI while Kelcie Senchak was also 3-for-4 with a run scored. Samantha Bloom and Ally DeVoir posted RBI singles in the seventh while Amber Saylor drew a bases-loaded walk. Bloom (4-1) was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on six hits.
In the second game, the teams entered extra-innings tied at 0-0, thanks in large part to the efforts of King's freshman pitcher Nicole Kirse who took a no-hitter into the sixth inning.
After both teams scored a run in the eighth inning, King's exploded with six runs in the top-of-the ninth. Senchak had a two-run double, Gabriella Medina delivered a two-run single, while Mackenzie Yori and Megan Beaupre came through with run-scoring singles in the inning.
Kirse (3-1) pitched all nine innings in the game, allowing just two hits while striking out four batters.
King's returns home Saturday at 1:00 PM with a MAC Freedom Conference douubleheader against DeSales University.
