KING'S SOFTBALL SWEPT BY DESALES IN MAC FREEDOM OPENERS
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball team opened its MAC Freedom Conference schedule with a doubleheader loss to visiting DeSales University Saturday in the Betzler Athletic Complex.
DeSales won the first game 12-2 before taking the nightcap 4-1. With the sweep DeSales improved to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in league play. King's, meanwhile, slipped to 9-5 overall and 0-2 in conference games.
In the opener, King's started out strong and jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after Amber Saylor and Samantha Bloom both singled and Megan Beaupre delivered a two-run single. But that was all the offense King's would generate the rest of the game.
DeSales, meanwhile, scored two in the the third and five more in each of the fifth and sixth innings.
King's finished with just four hits in the game. Bloom was the losing pitcher, allowing seven runs in 4.1 innings of work.
In the second game, DeSales scored three runs in the second inning before adding another in the fourth to build a 4-0 lead. King's added a run in the sixth when Mackenzie Yori walked and later scored from third on a base hit from Lexi Wolk. 
King's managed just three hits in the game. Nicole Kirse took the pitching loss for King's, allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits while striking out two batters.
King's returns home Tuesday with a 3:00 PM doubleheader against Keystone College.
