King's Softball Splits with Cross-Town Rival Wilkes

KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH RIVAL WILKES

EDWARDSVILLE -- The King's College softball team renewed its long-time rivalry with cross-town foe Wilkes University. In the end neither squad was able to walk away with local ragging rights as the teams settled for a doubleheader split at the Ralston Athletic Complex.

Wilkes won the opener 4-1 while King's regrouped in the nightcap to emerge with a 14-2 triumph.

With the split King's stands at 13-9 overall and 2-4 in the MAC Freedom Conference while Wilkes is now 14-6 and 4-2.

In the nightcap King's built a 5-0 lead after six innings. But in the seventh the Monarchs exploded for nine runs to move ahead 14-0. Wilkes scored its only two runs in the bottom of the frame to set the final score. 

Samantha Bloom was 3-for-3 with three RBI and scored three runs while Lexi Wolk finished 3-for-5 with a double, two runs, and three RBI. Amber Saylor was 2-for-4 with two runs and a double while Mackenzie Yori went 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice. Ally DeVoir also had two hits for the Monarchs Kristina Kocher was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on five hits with two strikeouts.

In the first game, King's took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Taylor Norris singled, moved to third on a double by Kelcie Sencak, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Yori. But that was all the scoring King's would muster the rest of the way.

Wilkes scored twice in the fourth and two more in the sixth to walk way with the opener.

Norris led King's offenSamantha Bloom3-for-3 effort while scoring the lone run for the Monarchs.  Samantha Bloom was the losing pitcher, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out two batters.

King's will travel to Poughkeepsie, NY Sunday to face Manhattanville College in a MAC Freedom make-up doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM.
