KING'S SOFTBALL GAINS SPLIT WITH DEFENDING MAC FREEDOM CHAMPION MANHATTANVILLE

PURCHASE, NY -- The King's College softball team overcame a 2-1 deficit by scoring twice in the seventh inning to give the King's College softball team a 3-2 victory and a doubleheader split with defending MAC Freedom Conference champion Manhattanville College Sunday in Purchase, NY. Manhattanville won the first game 5-0.

With the split King's stands at 14-10 overall and 3-5 in MAC Freedom play. Manhattanville, meanwhile, is now 10-10 and 3-3.

In the top of the seventh in the nightcap, Ally DeVoir reached base on a single and scored on a two-base error following a single from Amber Saylor to tie the game at 2-2. Saylor would eventually score from third on a wild pitch to give the Monarchs a 3-2 lead.

King's starting pitcher Kristine Kocher would work her way out of a jam in the bottom of the inning when the Valiants loaded the bases with two out. But Kocher induced an infield ground out to end the game.

Saylor was 2-for-4 and scored twice in the game. Lex Wolk finished 2-for-3 while Mackenzie Yori, Gabby Leary, and DeVoir all had one hit.  Kocher tossed a five-hitter in the game with four strikeouts to pick up the win.

In the opener, Manhattanville took a 3-0 lead after three innings en route to victory. King's mustered just three hits in the game, two coming from Wolk while Meaghan Beaupre added the other. Nicole Kirse took the pitching loss for King's, allowing five runs on nine hits with two strikeout.
