MANHATTANVILLE GOES 2-0 ADVANCES TO MAC FREEDOM TITLE GAME SATURDAY, MISERICORDIA AND KING'S REMAIN ALIVE

WILKES-BARRE -- Defending champion and top-seeded Manhattanville College went 2-0 the first day and advanced o the championship round of the MAC Freedom Conference Softball championships Friday at King's College's Betzler Athletic Complex.

Third-seeded Misericordia and fourth-seeded King's both went 1-1 on Friday to remain alive while second-seeded DeSales finished 0-2 and was eliminated.

On Saturday, King's will play Misericordia in an 11:00 AM elimination game with the survivor playing Manhattanville at 1:00 PM. Manhattanville, with its 2-0 mark, would have to be defeated twice in the double elimination tournament. Should the King's-Misericordia winner defeat Manhattanville in the sixth game of the tournament, an "if necessary" seventh tournament game would be played at 3:00 PM.

The following are recaps of Friday's games:

Game 1:  Manhattanville 5 - King's 0
A game that was a pitcher's dual opened up in the fifth inning when Manhattanville scored all five of its runs. The Valiants rode the arm of senior pitcher Alycia Feeney who tossed a two-hitter. 

The Valiants scored their runs by way of a RBI triple by Brooke Franson, a RBI double from Isela Casillas, and RBI singles from Desiree Vuboli, Evonne Torres, and Sophina Chapalone. Delores Doemicke, Casillas, and Franson had two hits apiece for the Valiants.Feeney struck out three batters in the game.

King's had a triple form Kelcie Senchak and a single by Mackenzie Yori. Kristina Kocher was the losing pitcher for King's, allowing all five runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.


Game 2 Recap:  Misericordia 3 - DeSales 1
After falling behind 1-0 after the game's first at-bats, Misricordia countered with two runs and the second and one in the fourth to post a 3-1 victory in the other first-round game of the tournament.

DeSales scored an unearned run on a sacrifice fly by Alexa Marashefski. Misericordia answered with two unearned runs of its own on a RBI single by Maddie Holub and a run-scoring double from Jordan Hofman.  The Cougars added the final run of the game in the fourth when Holub walked and scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Brianna Holder


Game 3 Recap:  Manhattanville 9 - Misericordia 1 (5inn)
Manhattanville advance to Saturday's championship round with a 9-1 win in five innings. After trailing 1-0, the Valiants scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning; one in the second; and three in the third to build a 7-1 lead. Manhattanville plated two more in the fifth to end the game.

Aarin Hartenstein went 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI, and was also the winning pitcher, allowing one earned run and just two hits in five complete innings.  Diemicke was 2-for-3 with two runs while Casillas was 1-for-3 with a double and one run scored. San Jedrey and Franson also delivered RBI singles. Manhattanville plays the survivor of the play-back games Saturday at 1:00 PM.

Game 4 Recap:  King's 5 - DeSales 4 (DeSales eliminated)
King's remained alive with a 5-4 win over DeSales in an elimination game. King's led 4-2 in the sixth but DeSales scored two runs to tie the game. In the top of the seventh, Allie DeVoir reached base on an infield single, stole second base and moved to third on a throwing error on the attempt. DeVoir would score what proved to be the game-winning run on a no-out sacrifice fly to left field by Samantha Bloom. Taylor Norris had two hits and two RBI in the game for King's. DeVoir was 1-for--3 with a run while Megan Beaupre was 1-for-2 with one run. Lexi Wolk also had a hit and scored a run.  

Bloom was the winning pitcher, allowing four runs on eight hits and a struck out four batters. Hallie Muffley led DeSales with a 2-for-4 showing, including a two-run home run. Sunny Greenberg and Erin Redden had two hits apiece for the Bulldogs. Hailey Warner took the pitching loss in relief, allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts in four innings of work.  King's will face Misericordia in an elimination game Saturday at 11:00 AM in the Betzler Complex.
