NORTHAMPTON, PA (September 14, 2018) –
Beth Albright finished 15th overall in her first collegiate 6,000 meter race to lead the King's College women's cross country team to a third place team finish at the Cedar Crest/Moravian Invitational on Friday night at Bicentennial Park in Northampton.
Katie Mayer and Carly Danoski of host Moravian College were the top two finishers to help the Greyhounds edge out York College of Pennsylvania 28-29 for the team title. Mayer finished in 24:22.5 while Danoski crossed the line in 24:27.1. The Spartans placed six in the top 10 but that wasn't enough to overcome Moravian placing three in the top five.
The Monarchs, who were without top runner
Tara Johnson, scored 101 points to finish third. Middle Atlantic Conference foe Alvernia University was fourth with 108 points while Bryn Athyn was fifth with 169 points. Delaware Valley University (180), Cedar Crest College (203), Notre Dame University of Maryland (209), and Clarks Summit University (213) finished sixth through ninth.
Albright scored 14 points for the Monarchs with a time of 25:43.6 finishing 15th out of 80 runners.
Kelsie Canessa finished 22nd overall and scored 16 points with a time of 26:25.5.
Tara Weitz was King's third finisher with a time of 26:55.9 to score 18 points and finished 29th overall.
Senior
Irene Argiris came within 11 seconds of her career best time as the Monarchs fourth finisher. Her time of 28:10.7 scored 25 points as she crossed the line in 36th. Freshman
Mackenzie Shughart ran a 29:13.8 in her first collegiate 6K to finish 46th overall and score 28 points. Another freshman,
Kelly Lynch finished 50th overall with a time of 30:09.4 in her first collegiate race.
Anna Marie Beyer rounded out the King's runners with a time of 34:03.6 to finish 66th.
The Monarchs will now have two weeks off as they prepare for the Paul Short Run on September 29 at Lehigh University. The races are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Lehigh's Goodman Campus.
