Monarch Women’s Soccer Match Notes – Centenary

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 18, 2018) – The King's College women's soccer team will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Centenary University at 5 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium.

Last Time Out: King's lost a heartbreaker 1-0 in overtime at undefeated Albright College on Saturday night. The Lions were able to find the back of the net after a free kick into the box deflected off a Monarch defender and Jillian Lapidus knocked the ball just inside the left post.
 
The Book On The Monarchs (2-3):
  • Junior Danielle Putnam leads the Monarchs with two goals and one assist. The forward is ranked 30th in the nation and is second in the MAC Freedom with two game-winning goals.  She is tied for seventh in the conference with five points.
  • Junior Sophia Sacknievich has provided an offensive spark off the bench this season scoring twice in five games. Her two goals are the third-most scored in the MAC Freedom and she is tied for 10th in the conference with four points.
  • Three sophomores have also done damage for King's this season. Emma Baumbusch is tied for third in the conference with two assists, Emily Harrington has scored a goal scored and an assist, and Stephane Corea has recorded an assist.
  • King's is outshooting their opponents 52-35. They are averaging 10.4 shots per game and allowing 7.0. The Monarchs are third in the conference with 6.20 corner kicks per game taking 31. The Monarchs have given up just 18 corners to their opponents.
  • Freshman keeper Tara Bender has made 13 saves in 326:13 minutes of action this season while facing 27 shots. She has a goals against average of 1.66 and a save percentage of .684.
  • Junior Jess Schenfeld has made two starts for the Monarchs in goal including Saturday's match at Albright. She has a 0.65 GAA in 139:32 minutes of action and has a save percentage of .750.
The Book On The Cyclones (1-4):
  • Centenary is 1-4 this season but are coming off their best performance of the year with a 4-0 shutout at Neumann on Saturday. The Cyclones were picked as the favorite to win the Colonial State Athletic Conference this season in the Preseason Poll.
  • Junior Stephanie Williams leads the team with three goals on 11 shots. She is eighth in the conference in goals scored.
  • Senior Amanda Benoit and junior Chloe Christopher have recorded five points each for the Cyclones. Benoit has scored two goals and added an assist while Christopher has a goal and a team-leading three assists. Christopher is sixth in the CSAC in assists.
  • Seniors Kara LaPolice and Kristin Karszen have added a goal and an assist each to the Cyclone offense.
  • Centenary has been outscored 14-8 this year with the difference occurring in the first half of matches. The Cyclones are being outscored 9-3 in the first half. The team has allowed 94 shots including 52 on goal and have taken 54 shots.
  • Freshman Rachel Colt has seen a lot of action recording a conference-leading 34 saves and 6.80 per match. She has a 2.73 goals against average and a .723 save percentage.
  • Centenary is 8-6 all-time against the Monarchs but the teams have not met since 2010. The Cyclones won the previous two meetings in 2010 and 2006. The last time Centenary traveled to Wilkes-Barre, the Monarchs came away with a 3-1 victory in 2005 to improve their record to 4-3 against Centenary when the match in played at home.
Up Next: King's will face a tough test on the road when they travel down to Annville to take on regionally-ranked Lebanon Valley College at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Monarchs stunned the Dutchmen with a 1-1 draw on Homecoming Saturday last year in Wilkes-Barre.
