Monarch Field Hockey Match Notes – Delaware Valley, St. Thomas Aquinas

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 20, 2018)- The King's College field hockey team will be in action twice on Homecoming weekend with matches on Friday and Sunday. The Monarchs will open Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play Friday night in Doylestown where they will face Delaware Valley University at 7 p.m. in Work Stadium. They will then host Division II St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday at 1 pm in McCarthy Stadium. The Monarchs will end a tough stretch of 7 matches in 13 days on Sunday.

Last Time Out: King's dropped a hard-fought battle 2-0 at Lebanon Valley as the Dutchmen scored a goal in each half. Taylor Runo made a defensive save while Brianne Maluda made four saves in cage.
 
The Book On The Monarchs (4-4):
  • Senior Kelsey Gabriele has scored four goals this year and added one assist for nine points. She is ranked tied for fifth in the MAC Freedom in goals and second in the conference with 32 shots. She enters the weekend with 84 career points.
  • Sophomore Jolee Treslar is having an impressive rookie season for King's with eight points on three goals and two assists. She is ranked in the top 10 of the conference in all three categories.
  • Freshman Hannah Robbins is tied for sixth in the conference with two assists.
  • Senior Kelley O'Keefe has recorded three points on one goal and one assist this season. Junior Maryrosse Mauro scored one goal while seniors Connie Mangino and Rachel Zultevicz have recorded an assist each.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Brianne Maluda has played the most minutes in the conference and has made the second most saves with 42. Her three shutouts lead the MAC Freedom. She has a 2.04 goals against average and a .724 save percentage.
  • The Monarch defense has allowed 16 goals in eight matches this season against a strong non-conference schedule. King's leads the MAC Freedom with three shutouts. They are ranked 33rd in the nation with 0.38 shutouts per match.

The Book On The Aggies (5-1):
  • The Aggies enter Friday night's conference open with a 5-1 record after defeating Immaculata 3-1 on Tuesday. Del Val's only loss this season was a 2-1 shootout defeat at Moravian. The Aggies are 3-0 at home this year.
  • Delaware Valley has scored 18 goals while giving up just six this season. Their scoring average of 3.00 is the second best in the MAC Freedom. They have allowed the fewest goals in the conference and are ranked sixth in the nation with a .895 save percentage.
  • Freshman Courtney Austin paces the Aggie offense with six goals and one assist. She tops the conference with 2.17 points per match while scoring the most goals.
  • Junior Madi Colon is second on the team with four goals and two assists. She is third in the conference with 1.67 points per match and fourth in goals per match.
  • Junior Alexa Aguilar and sophomore Gillian Nardelli have recorded two goals and an assist each. Freshman Jess Dixon leads the team and is tied for third in the conference with three assists.
  • Junior Rosie Bishop and sophomore Kita Konerth have split time in cage. Konerth is 1-1 making the past three starts. She tops the conference and is ranked fourth in the nation with a .909 save percentage and is fifth in the nation making 13.33 saves per match. Bishop is 4-0 on the year with a 0.68 goals against average and a .833 save percentage.
  • King's is 18-10 all-time against the Aggies including a 16-9 record in conference play and an 8-5 record in Doylestown. The Monarchs have won the past four meetings outscoring Del Val 15-8 in the process.
 
The Book On The Spartans (2-7):
  • St. Thomas Aquinas enters the weekend with a 2-7 record after dropping a 2-1 overtime decision to Manhattanville on Wednesday. The Spartans compete at the NCAA Division II level as an independent.
  •  Junior Briannah Thorne leads the team with 13 points on five goals and three assists. She has taken 26 shots including 19 on goal and recorded one game-winning goal.
  • Senior Jacqueline Dowling is second on the team with nine points on three goals and three assists.
  • The Spartans are being outscored 32-11 this season while being out-shot 142-61.
  • Sophomore Suzanne Clarke has started every match in cage recording a 3.19 GAA and a .675 save percentage in 570 minutes of action. She is ranked 14th in Division II with 6.00 saves per match. Her save percentage is ranked 25th while her GAA is 31st.
  • This is the first-ever meeting between the two programs. King's is 0-10 all-time against Division II programs.
Up Next: King's will be off during the week before hosting local rivals Misericordia University and Marywood University next weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
