Monarch Women’s Soccer Match Notes – Lebanon Valley

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 21, 2018) – The King's College women's soccer team will face their toughest test of the season so far on Saturday when they travel down to Annville to face regionally-ranked Lebanon Valley College.

Last Time Out: The Monarchs received first half goals from Allison Andrew and Kara Keim to defeat Centenary University 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium. Tara Bender equaled her career high with four saves in goal.
 
The Book On The Monarchs (3-3):
  • Five of King's six matches this year have been decided by one goal with two needing extra time. King's is being outscored 8-7 despite outshooting their opponents 62-44.
  • The Monarchs will be playing just their second road match of the year on Saturday. It is the second consecutive Saturday the Monarchs will face a MAC Commonwealth opponent on their home field. Both teams qualified for the 2017 MAC Commonwealth Tournament. King's dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision in overtime at Albright last weekend.
  • Junior Danielle Putnam leads the Monarchs with two goals and one assist. The forward is ranked 43rd in the nation and second in the MAC Freedom with two game-winning goals.  She is tied for seventh in the conference with five points.
  • Junior Sophia Sacknievich has come off the bench to provide an offensive spark with two goals. That is the third-most scored in the MAC Freedom this year and she is tied for 11th in the conference with four points.
  • Senior Allison Andrew scored her first goal of the season on Wednesday while freshman Kara Keim had a memorable first collegiate goal as it was also the game-winner.
  • Three sophomores have also done damage for the Monarchs this season. Emma Baumbusch and Stephanie Corea are tied for fourth in the conference with two assists each. Emily Harrington has scored a goal and added an assist.
  • Freshman Tara Bender has emerged as King's top goalkeeper this season making four starts and playing in five matches. Her 1.51 goals against average in ranked fourth in the conference. Her .708 save percentage is fifth. The freshman has recorded a 3-2 record in 416:13 minutes of action.
  • Junior Jess Schenfeld has also seen time in net making two starts. She has a 0.65 GAA in 139:32 minutes of action and a save percentage of .750.
  • King's has done a great job at producing corner kicks this year as the Monarchs are second in the conference with 6.50 per match and third in total corners taken with 39. The Monarchs have given up just 22 corners to their opponents. King's leads the MAC Freedom in offsides this year committing just four in six matches.
The Book On The Dutchmen (2-2-1):
  • Lebanon Valley is traditionally on of the top teams in the MAC Commonwealth and Mid-Atlantic Region and this year is no different as the Dutchmen were picked to finish third in the conference preseason coaches' poll behind nationally-ranked Messiah and Arcadia. Leb Val is currently ranked eighth in this week's United Soccer Coaches Mid-Atlantic Poll.
  • The Dutchmen are playing their third consecutive match against a MAC Freedom opponent following tough 1-0 losses to Misericordia and DeSales. Lebanon Valley dropped a heartbreaker to nationally-ranked Misericordia on a corner kick goal in overtime on September 12th before falling at DeSales on Wednesday on an 85th minute goal. Overall the team is 1-2 against the MAC Freedom this season, defeating Eastern 4-0 in their season opener.
  • The Dutchmen are looking to play on a Saturday for the first time since the first weekend of the season after having their last two Saturday contests postponed.
  • LVC is outscoring their opponents 7-3 receiving goals from five different student-athletes.
  • Freshman Lucy McGloshen made a spectacular collegiate debut with two goals and an assist against the Eagles and currently sits sixth in the MAC Commonwealth with 1.25 points per match.
  • Senior Katie Goldsmith scored twice against Marywood while freshman Angela Stock leads the team with two assists. Stock is eighth in the conference with .40 assists per match.
  • Seniors Rileigh Jo Evitts, who was First Team All-Conference last year, has three points on a goal and an assist this year.
  • In goal the Dutchmen have received excellent play from junior Serena Donmoyer. In her first year of action at LVC Donmoyer has recorded the best GAA in the MAC Commonwealth at 0.57. Her .842 save percentage is second in the conference.
  • LVC is 12-2-1 all-time against the Monarchs on the soccer pitch including a 6-1 record in Annville. King's stopped a 12-match losing skid last year with a 1-1 draw on Homecoming Saturday at McCarthy Stadium.
Up Next: The Monarchs will have the week off to prepare for the beginning of conference play next Saturday when they host FDU-Florham at 7 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium.
