WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 16, 2019) – The King's College women's ice hockey team will look to record the biggest upset of the season this weekend when the travel back to upstate New York to take on the top-ranked Elmira College Soaring Eagles in a pair of United Hockey Collegiate Conference (UCHC) games.

Last Time Out: The Monarchs played well in a tough weekend series against a quality William Smith team. However, the Herons came away with two shutout victories.
Emma Zeveney made 59 saves in goal over the course of the two games while splitting time with
Kiva Sierra Stoltz who made 52 saves. The King's defense blocked 40 shots led by
Meghan Mietlicki with nine.
Gracen Mahoney took a team-high 10 shots over the weekend series and won 22 faceoffs.
Elmira picked up a pair of 2-0 victories at Manhattanville last weekend. Maddy Jerolman and Emma Crocker had a goal and an assist each in the opener while Eliza Beaudin recorded the first assist on both goals. Katie Granato tallied both goals in the weekend finale. Stephanie Martin made 38 saves on the weekend to pick up two shutouts.
The Book On The Monarchs (1-14-0, 0-10-0 UCHC, 0-4-0 MAC):
- King's has greatly improved on the ice as the season as progressed. The weekend will end a tough stretch against the top teams in the conference. It will also be the last full weekend the Monarchs are away from Revolution Ice Centre. Six of the final eight games will be on home ice.
- Emma Zeveney came off the bench to make 59 saves last weekend and has 310 in nine games this season. She has a 6.80 GAA and a .873 save percentage this season. The sophomore has good in conference play this season stopping 87.7 percent of the shots she faced for a 6.47 GAA.
- Sophomore netminder Kiva Sierra Stoltz has recorded a 6.96 GAA, a .859 save percentage, and saved a total of 341 shots in 12 games this season.
- The Monarchs have blocked 283 shots this season with Morgan Almon leading the way with 43. Freshmen Meghan Mietlicki and Erin King have been very consistent on defense for the Monarchs skating in every game. Mietlicki is second on the team wit 43 shots blocked while King is fourth with 21. Sophomore Kelly Tuffy adds 25 blocks.
- Sophomore captain Gracen Mahoney has been good in the faceoff circle this season leading the team with 193 wins and a .504 percentage. She also leads the team in scoring with five points on three goals and two assists.
- Kellie Munro has also recorded five points this year for the Monarchs. The sophomore has two goals and a team-leading three assists. Sophomore Raeann Clancey scored the game-winning goal against Wilkes in the season-opener and had added two assists for three points.
- The Monarchs are recording 11.2 penalty minutes per game which is the sixth most in the nation. Opponents have scored 20 goals in 79 power play opportunities.
The Book On The Soaring Eagles (12-2-1, 8-0-0 UCHC):
- Elmira enters the weekend ranked number one in both the USCHO and D3hockey.com polls. The Soaring Eagles only two losses this season have been to second-ranked SUNY Plattsburgh and #10/RV Williams.
- The Soaring Eagles has avenged their loss to Norwich in last year's National Championship with two wins over the Cadets this season by scores of 4-2 and 3-0. The Eagles also avenged their loss to SUNY Plattsburgh earlier this month by a 4-1 score in the East-West Hockey Classic Championship game.
- EC has outscored teams 21-4 during their current six-game winning streak. They are looking to stay unbeaten in the Murray Athletic Center where they are a perfect 5-0 this season and looking to stay unbeaten in UCHC play.
- King's and Elmira opened up UCHC play last year in Pittston with the Eagles winning by scores of 9-0 and 11-0 in the first women's games played at Revolution Ice Centre.
- Senior forward Katie Granato has been one of the best players in Division III this season and is a serious contender for MVP honors. She is currently second in the nation with 28 points on 19 goals and nine assists. She leads the nation with 1.27 goals per game. Granato has been especially dangerous on the power play recording eight goals which is the most in Division III. She has three hat tricks this year and recorded a season-high seven points on four goals and three assists in a 12-0 victory over Lebanon Valley.
- The Soaring Eagles have five more skaters, including four seniors, with double-digit points. Maddie Evangelous (4G, 11A) has 15 points, Maddy Jerolman (5G, 9A) has 14 points, Shannon Strawinski (6G, 6A) has 12 points, Meg Lahey (1 G, 10A) has 11 points, and freshman Ariella Haas (3G, 7A) has 10 points. Evangelous is ranked 20th in assists per game. Lahey is tied for 11th in the nation in points per game by a defenseman.
- Nearly every skater on the roster has celebrated a goal this season as 18 different skaters have recorded at least one point and 17 different skaters have scored a goal.
- Stephanie Martin has been one of the best goalies in the nation this year recording a 1.08 GAA and a .946 save percentage in 12 games. She is sixth in Division III in GAA and 12th in save percentage. Her five shutouts are tied for third.
- Elmira is tied for ninth in the nation with a 2.47 scoring margin. Their 3.67 goals per game is ranked ninth and their 1.20 goals allowed are the fourth-best in Division III. They have been the best in the nation on the power play with a 34.0 goal percentage.
Up Next: King's will return home for the first time since December 1, 2018 with the start of a five-game home stand. The Monarchs will host Chatham University next Friday and Saturday in a pair of UCHC games.
