Monarch Men's Basketball Game Notes - Misericordia

WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 22, 2019) – The King's College men's basketball team look to finish the first round of MAC Freedom play strong as they host Misericordia Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. King's lost their previous contest against Delaware Valley 84-73 after defeating Wilkes by 28 points last Wednesday.

Last Time Out: The Monarchs fell to 4-13 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) Monday as the lost to Delaware Valley 84-73 from Doylestown, PA.
 
Andrew Hudak was one point shy of his career high in points, putting up 14 in the loss against Delaware Valley. He was also one field goal shy of his season best, putting up five field goals over eight attempts.
 
King's made 50% of their field goals, and held Delaware Valley to 38.3%, however were undone by free throws and 3-point field goals.
 
A Look at the Monarchs (4-13, 2-4 MAC Freedom):
 
  • The Monarchs lead the MAC Freedom Conference in offensive rebounds with 203, and are 3rd in the conference in overall rebounds at 657.
  • King's has done an excellent job stealing the ball from their opponents; they are ranked 2nd in the MAC Freedom Conference with 8.8 steals per game. That is ranked 55th nationally.
  • This also helps rank the Monarchs at 2nd in the conference and 42nd nationally with 17.75 turnovers forced.
  • The Monarchs will need to improve their field goal percentage, as they are ranked last in the conference with 39.3% from the field.
  • Junior Andrew Hudak is having his best season as a Monarch yet, having already broken several career highs and seems well on his way to breaking even more.
  • Prior to this season, Hudak's career high in points was 12 points. This season, he has tied that three times and surpassed it another three, with his best at 15 points.
  • Hudak has also shattered his career high in assists, now with a career high of 9, tripling his previous career high before the season.
  • Hudak has nearly doubled his career high in rebounds at 15, and has doubled it for blocks, with 4, and steals, with 2. Hudak's total 111 rebounds and 8.5 rebounds per game are 3rd in the conference.
  • Sophomore Noah Tanner has done an excellent job leading the offense this season, and has filled in well for his second year. He leads the team with 52 assists and 175 points this season.
  • Tanner has also been a terror on defense, leading the team in steals with 29.
  • Freshman Jake Pawliczak begins his career as a Monarch with a strong first season. He leads the team with the most field goals made at 72, and is 2nd on the team with 157 points. He also edges out Hudak by one rebound, totaling 112 on the season.
  • Pawliczak is 2nd in the MAC Freedom Conference in field goal percentage at .567.
  • Pawliczak leads the team in blocks, with 20 so far this season.
  • Senior James Willis currently leads the team in 3-point percentage at .400. Willis, Kevin Hunter, and Tyler Millan each have made at least 20 3-point field goals this season.
 
A Look at the Cougars (9-7, 2-3 MAC Freedom):
 
  • Misericordia was on a 4-game winning streak before it was snapped in their previous contest against Eastern, in which they lost 75-67.
  • The Cougars come into this game ranked 3rd in the MAC Freedom Conference in field goal percentage defense, allowing 43.9% on the field.
  • Despite being 7th in offensive rebounds, the Cougars are 3rd in the conference in defensive rebounds with 28.3 rebounds per game.
  • Misericordia is 2nd in the conference with an assist/turnover ratio of 1.11.
  • Jason Kenny leads the conference in points per game at 21.6 and is 2nd in 3-point field goal percentage in the conference at .418.
  • Kenny also leads the conference in steals with 34, averaging 2.1 per game.
  • Noah Rivera is 4th in the conference with 8.1 rebounds per game.
  • Alec Rodway is 3rd in the conference in assists per game at 3.4, having played in only 11 games this season.
 
Against Misericordia All-Time: King's is 23-20 all-time against the Cougars, as Misericordia swept the season series last year. The Cougars have won the last seven contests in the series, but six of the past 11 games have gone to overtime.
 
Up Next: King's will host DeSales University Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in McGrane Gymnasium to finish the season series with the Bulldogs.
