WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 24, 2019) – The King's College men's ice hockey team will hit the road this weekend for two United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contests at Stevenson University and Chatham University. The game at Stevenson on Friday night will also count as a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) game.

Last Time Out: King's fell to host Lebanon Valley in overtime by a score of 4-3 last night in Hershey.
Cameron Anklewich tallied his first goal of the season with eight seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime as KC pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. The Dutchmen won in the extra session as Brett Johnson scored on a breakaway with 2:06 left.
Alex Bastone recorded his first two points of the year with a goal and an assist.
Brandon Daigle made 30 saves in net.
Stevenson defeated Chatham 5-1 on Monday night in Pittsburgh. The Mustangs raced out to a 3-0 lead after the first period behind two goals from Houston Wilson. Liam Gentile scored the lone goal in the second period for the Cougars before Aaron Murray and Nick Gray put the game away with goals in the third period for Stevenson. Dustyn Moyer made 23 saves for SU while Matt Calas made 39 saves for CU.
The Book On The Monarchs (1-17-0, 1-10-0 UCHC, 0-5-0 MAC):
- The Monarch offense recorded their third-best scoring output of the season last night with three goals and three assists for six points. It was the most goals in a game since scoring five against Chatham on November 9.
- Alex Bastone scored the first goal of his collegiate career and added an assist on King's first two goals against the Dutchmen.
- Sophomore Luciano Bucci continued his excellent play this year with his team-leading eighth assist of the year. The forward leads the team in scoring with 13 points also scoring five goals. Bucci has recorded at least one point every weekend this season except for two. He has also won the most faceoffs on the team going 174-145 for a .545 percentage.
- Bucci is one of three skaters who have played in all 42 games in program history. Sophomore Cameron Anklewich and senior Jamie Lukas are the other two.
- Lukas scored another goal last night to the add to his team-leading total of seven while recording his 20th career point. In November the senior had a program record streak of four straight games with a goal. Anklewich sent the game into overtime last night with his first goal of the year.
- Assistant captain Tommy Green put his name into the record books with the game-winning goal against Neumann. The sophomore scored with 2:29 left off assists by Matt Amelio and Anklewich. Green added an assist on Anklewich's goal against LVC for his fifth career point.
- Christian La Croix has been very dangerous on the power play this year as the sophomore has three goals and one assist while taking a team-leading 23 shots when King's is on a power play opportunity. Overall, La Croix has scored five goals and taken 43 shots.
- Freshman Michael DiSchiavi has made an impressive start to his career with four assists in 15 games. He has also been great on faceoffs winning 17 of his 23 attempts for a team-leading .739 percentage.
- Brandon Daigle has a 4.30 GAA in net with a .898 save percentage in 13 games. The freshman has made 460 saves.
- The Monarchs are averaging 14.3 penalty minutes per game. King's has been successful on 72 of 91 penalty kills this year and have scored three short-handed goals.
The Book On The Mustangs (7-10-0, 4-6-0 UCHC, 1-3-0 MAC):
- Stevenson ended the first half of UCHC play with four straight losses after a strong 4-2 start. The Mustangs are seventh in the conference standings and are six points shy of the sixth and final postseason spot.
- The Mustangs have faced a tough non-conference schedule this year. SU is 1-3-0 in 2019 during non-conference play with their losses coming at the hands of nationally-ranked SUNY Fredonia and SUNY Geneseo. Stevenson defeated The College at Brockport 2-0.
- SU has won all three meetings with the Monarchs including a 5-1 victory at Revolution in November. The Mustangs won by scores of 4-1 and 3-1 last year. This will be King's second time playing at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.
- Junior Dominic Brenza and sophomore Aaron Murray lead the team with 10 points each. Brenza has recorded 10 assists with three multi-assist games. Murray scored two goals and has tallied eight assists. The defender has recorded a season-high three assists this season and had two assists in another game.
- Carl Lyden leads the team with six goals including one against the Monarchs in November. He has also recorded two assists for eight points. The junior has scored in five of the eight games he has skated but has not played since November 24. Freshman Ryan Patrick has tallied eight assists.
- Freshman Riley McVeigh has a 6-9-0 record in goal with a 2.39 GAA and a .910 save percentage while making 332 saves.
- Stevenson is 21st in Division III recording 15.5 penalty minutes per game and have allowed 17 power play goals on 78 opportunities.
- 17 of SU's 35 goals this season have come on the power play. The Mustangs are scoring on 18.3 percent of their power play opportunities.
The Book On The Cougars (4-11-2, 2-7-1 UCHC):
- Chatham is 1-2-2 in their past five games defeating Anna Maria 7-5 on January 4. The Cougars will end a 11-game home stand against the Monarchs at the Frozen Pond Arena where they are 3-5-2 entering the weekend.
- The Cougars rallied for five straight goals to defeat King's 6-5 in overtime in their earlier meeting this year in Pittston. Chatham is 3-0 against KC also winning both meetings last year by scores of 2-1 in Pittsburgh and 4-2 at the Rev.
- Defenseman Andrew Breda leads the Cougars in points with 10 as the sophomore has one goal and nine assists this year. He scored his lone goal against the Monarchs in November.
- Clay Plyler and Chris Lutz have been the top goal scorers this year as Plyler has seven goals and two assists while Lutz has six goals and three assists. Lutz tallied two power play goals to start the comeback victory over King's. He has four power play goals on the season.
- Kirk Underwood has tallied nine assists while Daniel Cangelosi leads a group of five skaters with eight points each. Cangelosi has five goals this year including the game-winner in OT back in November against KC.
- The Cougars have played three different netminders this season with Matt Calas seeing 42.7 percent of the time. The sophomore has a 2.98 GAA and a .920 save percentage in eight games making 253 saves. Brian Baker has been in net 30.5 percent of the time recording a 4.37 GAA and a .868 save percentage in six games. Freshman Ricardo Gonzalez has made 157 on 178 for a .882 save percentage while recording a 4.69 GAA in seven games.
- Chatham is averaging 12.4 penalty minutes per game and have struggled on the penalty kill this year allowing 28 goals on 89 opportunities. Their own power play has been very good as they are 22nd with 16 goals in 73 chances.
Up Next: King's will not have to travel far next week as they will face Wilkes University on Thursday night at the Toyota Sportsplex on Coal Street in their only game of the week. The Colonels enter this weekend atop the UCHC and MAC standings.
