LOGAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (October 19, 2019) --- The King's College women's cross country team had just two runners compete on Saturday in the final regular season meet of the year as the squad ran in the Inter-Regional Border Battle at Gloucester County DREAM Park in Logan Township, NJ.
Julia Sabol and
Mackenzie Shughart were the lone Monarchs to run in the 6,000-meter Championship race hosted by Rowan University. Sabol was four seconds off her season best time running 28:30.3. The freshman started with a 7:16.8 first mile and finished with a 7:38 pace in her third 6K of the year. Sabol was coming off a time of 28:26.9 at the Paul Short Run a couple weeks ago.
Shughart made her first appearance of the season and ran a time of 31:42.4 for an 8:30 pace per mile. The sophomore ran a 7:25 in a very fast first mile by the entire field. Genny Corcoran of SUNY Geneseo led at the first mile marker in 5:23 en route to winning individual honors with a final time of 20:24.81. Isabel Cardi of Dickinson was second with a time of 20:40.80 while Rebecca Grusby of Johns Hopkins was third in 21:04.07.
Hopkins placed all seven of their runners in the top 14 including five in the top 10 to win the team title with 26 points. Dickinson was second with 76 points followed by Geneseo in third with 116 points. The Monarchs did not record a team score with only two runners competing.
King's will now look ahead to the Championship season beginning with the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday November 2 at 12 pm from Utica Park in Frederick, MD.
