Women's Tennis Splits Pair Of Matches Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 19, 2019) -- The King's College women's tennis team played host to Cabrini University and Drew University Saturday afternoon, topping Cabrini 9-0 while falling to Drew 8-1 in action from Kirby Park.

The Monarchs had no problems in sweeping the Cavaliers in non-conference play, starting with three doubles victories. King's earned a win at No. 1 doubles as Emily Fernandez and Alexis Zalutko cruised to an 8-2 win, before Lauren Lamarca and Addie Atkins won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles to make the score 2-0. 

At No. 2 doubles, King's completed the sweep thanks to an 8-3 victory by Diana Rodriguez and Mikayla Reynolds. In singles action, Fernandez won all 12 of her games to breeze to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. The clinching victory came from Reynolds at No. 4, as she earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory to give King's a 5-0 lead. 

Rodriguez would pot her second win of the day with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, followed by a Lamarca 6-2, 6-3 win over Natalie Bell of Cabrini at No. 5 singles. Atkins became a double winner on the day with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at the No. 6 position, and Zalutko finished the match with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles over Raechel Aviles.

King's wouldn't fare as well in the match with Drew University, dropping an 8-1 decision to the Rangers. Drew picked up an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles over Fernandez and Zalutko, but Rodriguez and Reynolds fought hard at No. 2 before falling 8-6. 

At No. 3 doubles, Codi Young and PJ Kaur fell 8-1 to complete the sweep of doubles by Drew. In singles, King's would only be able to earn a win at No. 6 singles, as Atkins chalked up a solid 6-1, 6-0 victory. Fernandez and Ashley Camel had a competitive match at No. 1 singles, but Camel topped Fernandez 7-5, 6-3. 

Reynolds and Kate Garogi also put on a good match at No. 4 singles, as the King's player took the first set 6-4. Garogi responded with a 6-2 win in the second set, and she would earn the match with a 10-7 win in the super tiebreaker.

The Monarchs will be right back on the courts Sunday, hosting Penn College and Lycoming College Sunday at 10 a.m. at Kirby Park.
