The Coaches: Jeff Knarr is in his 10th season with the Monarchs, as he is only the second coach of King's College football since 1991. Knarr took over for Rich Mannello, who was the head coach since football was reinstated at King's in 1993. Mark Ross is the only man to ever steer the ship of the Cougar football program, coming into the game with an all-time record of 14-59. Last year though, the Cougars went 8-3 and earned a MAC-Centennial Bowl Series berth, falling to Ursinus College 70-14 in that game.

Looking at Misericordia: Misericordia has played three games, but only two count this year due to Keystone's status as an NCAA team in 2019. The Cougars are 1-1 officially, having earned their first win of the year last weekend against Lebanon Valley. The Cougars rank seventh in total offense this year with 370.5 total yards per game, while also ranking seventh in defense allowing 373.5 yards per game. The Cougars are fifth in offensive efficiency in the conference, while ranking sixth in defensive efficiency. Quarterback Brady Williams is third in the league in passing yards per game with 268.0.

Preseason Poll: The Monarchs were picked to finish tied for sixth this season with crosstown rival Wilkes University. Reigning champ Delaware Valley University was the favorite among the coaches to repeat, while Stevenson was picked second. Lycoming, Widener and Misericordia rounded out the top five.

Looking Fresh: King's will be in gold pants with white jerseys and gold helmets Saturday afternoon.

Road Lions: The Monarchs have a nice road winning streak going currently, having won their last five road games. That streak is the second-longest in the MAC, behind the six-game stretch Delaware Valley has going. King's hasn't lost on the road since the 2018 season opener at Moravian.

Single Digit Tough:  The Monarchs award single digits based on merit, and recently named two more as Single Digit players. Junior Gabe Boccella was honored with the accolade and will wear #8, while lineman Joe Damiano also earned the honor. Due to NCAA regulations, linemen can not wear single digits, but Damiano will wear a single digit in practice. With those two, King's now has seven Single Digit Tough players: Sallavanti (1), Horn (2), Downes (3), McCall (4), Shelton (5), Boccella (8), Damiano (66), Swartz (67).

A Look At The Monarchs
  • Senior Jordan Downes is ranked No. 4 in the nation in Division III and first in the MAC for all-purpose yards, totaling 203.0 per outing.
  • Downes is also the nation's top running back as of right now, coming into the game with a Division III leading 155.3 yards per game. That's fifth in all of NCAA Football, behind Jaleel McLaughlin (Notre Dame, D-II, 223.3), Paul Terry (Eastern N.M., D-II, 165.5), Karekin Brooks (Penn, FCS, 180.0) and Chuba Hubbard (Oklahoma St., FBS, 187.6).
  • Junior Elijah Demosthene is ranked tenth in the nation in Division III and first in the MAC for forced fumbles with 0.67 per game.
  • Junior Jaret Horn ranks second nationally in both fumbles recovered and interceptions per game. He also ranks first in the MAC for both areas, respectively.
  • Freshman Joseph Carchio is currently ranked second in the MAC for punting average, posting an average of 38.2 yards per kick.
  • King's comes into today's game as one of just 45 teams in the nation that have yet to lose a game.
  • In the first three games of the season, King's has out rushed every team by at least 34 yards per contest.
  • Downes himself has out rushed every team so far this season by a total of 164 yards.
  • King's is third in total offense in the MAC with 395 yards per game, while ranking fourth in yardage allowed per contest with 306.0.
  • Sophomore Tyler Moore is fifth in the MAC in quarterback rating with a 139.7, while his completion percentage of 63.9 is third in the league.
  • Senior Mikal Butler is fourth in the MAC in passes defended with five.
  • Mando Sallavanti ranks seventh in the conference in tackles per game with 8.0, posting 11 solo and 13 assisted stops.
  • The King's defense has been strong this year, allowing a league-low 13.7 first downs per game. The Monarchs are also stingy on third-down, forcing teams into just a 27.9 percent conversion rate on third downs.
  • The Monarchs continue to play disciplined football, being whistled for only 14 penalties all season, third-fewest in the conference.
  • Gabe Boccella has posted four straight games with a touchdown dating back to last year, while adding back-to-back 100 yards games receiving. He's the first King's wideout with back-to-back 100-yard games since Dan Kempa accomplished that feat twice in the 2014 season.
King's Two-Deep Injury and Depth Report: No significant injuries on the two-deep. Senior Devin Ringler, sophomore Tom Monico and freshman Teone Sherrod have been added to the two-deep this week.

A Look Ahead: King's will be on the road next Saturday, October 12, traveling to No. 13 Delaware Valley University at 1 p.m. for MAC play in Doylestown, PA. Misericordia travels to Widener University next Saturday in Chester, PA for league action.
