Last Time Out: The King's College men's basketball team traveled across town to rival Wilkes University Saturday afternoon, but the Colonels were too much as the Monarchs dropped a 76-51 outcome in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play from the Marts Center.
The Monarchs won the opening tip and jumped out on top early, as sophomore Noah Tanner connected on the first field goal of the game to give King's the early lead. The two teams would exchange leads over the first five minutes of the contest, with Wilkes regaining a one-point advantage at 11-10 after a triple from Rob Pecorelli.

The run for Wilkes (16-7, 8-4 MAC Freedom) continued, ending in an 11-0 run after a free throw to give the hosts a 20-10 advantage with 10:49 left in the opening half. King's scored the next five points to trim its deficit to five at 20-15 following a free throw by Tyler Millan, but another 10-0 run from the Colonels made the score 30-15 with just under six to go in the half.

The Monarchs once again responded with a run of their own, notching seven consecutive points to force a Wilkes timeout with 4:10 to go in the period and the score showing 30-22. After the stoppage, the hosts finished the period on a 16-4 run including a Connor Evans three at the buzzer from 30 feet to give Wilkes its biggest lead of the game of 20 going into halftime.

After struggling from deep in the first game of the season series at King's, Wilkes was red-hot from downtown connecting on 9-of-19 from three-land in the first half. Overall, the Colonels made 50 percent from the field, while King's was 9-of-30 overall while committing 12 turnovers. Freshman Jake Pawliczak and Tanner each posted eight points in the first half to lead King's, and Pecorelli came off the bench to register 11 points for Wilkes.

In the second half, freshman JJ Glinsky came off the bench to post eight points but the Monarchs as a team couldn't get much going as the Colonels clinched a MAC Freedom Tournament bid with the win. Pawliczak had another solid game, registering his fourth double-double of the season with team-highs of 12 points and 10 rebounds. The freshman post play was 6-of-9 from the field.

Tanner finished with 10 points and a team-leading two steals, and Glinsky needed eight minutes to score eight points on 2-of-4 shooting from deep. Millan also posted six points for King's, and junior Joe Lonardi came off the bench to grab nine rebounds. The Monarchs dominated on the glass, winning the board battle 52-38, but couldn't turn the extra possessions into points as the Monarchs turned the ball over 20 times and shot 27.3 percent (18-66) from the field.

A Look At The Monarchs (4-19, 2-10 MAC Freedom):
  • The Monarchs will look to get back to scoring in the 70s, as King's has been held under 70 points over the last three games. Prior to that, the Monarchs had gotten to 70 in five consecutive games.
  • The offense has struggled due to shooting issues, as King's has shot an identical 27.3 percent from the field in each of the last two games. That ties for a season-low from the field.
  • Freshman Jake Pawliczak posted his fifth double-double of the year on Saturday afternoon, pouring in a team-high 12 points to go with 10 rebounds. Pawliczak has scored double-digits in four of his last six games.
  • Freshman Joey Lindsay earned his first career start on Saturday at Wilkes, playing a career-high 14 minutes while chalking up career-highs of four rebounds and three assists.
  • Newcomer JJ Glinsky was held scoreless in the first half against Wilkes, but came off the bench to post eight points in eight minutes in the second stanza.
  • The Monarchs are first in the MAC Freedom in offensive rebounds per game, pulling down 12.1 a game on average. Their 279 offensive rebounds also top in the conference.
  • King's has forced 363 turnovers overall this season, which is the second-most in the MAC Freedom.
  • In MAC Freedom play, King's is fourth in rebounding margin, grabbing 1.5 more rebounds on average than its opponent. Junior Andrew Hudak helps that by grabbing 8.8 rebounds per contest in conference games.
  • The current seven-game slide for the Monarchs is the most since dropping nine in a row back in 2016-17.
A Look At The Cougars (12-11, 5-7 MAC Freedom):
  • The defending MAC Freedom champions will not have the chance to defend their title, as Misericordia was eliminated from postseason play after Wilkes defeated King's Saturday.
  • Misericordia has dropped its last three games and four of the last five overall, falling to DeSales University 76-60 on the road in Center Valley, PA.
  • The Cougars have been able to score the ball this season, but have struggled to stop teams allowing 74.4 points per game which is third-most in the MAC Freedom.
  • Jason Kenny, who recently scored his 2000th point for the Cougars, leads the conference in scoring with 21 points per game. His 484 points is also tops among MAC Freedom players, while his 142 free throws is also a league-high.
  • The senior is shooting over 50 percent overall, while his .404 three-point shooting is second-best in the MAC Freedom. He also ranks sixth in the league in assists per game with 3.2, and his 2.3 steal a game is tops in the conference.
  • Tony Harding adds 13.3 points per game for the Cougars, joining Kenny as the only other player to start all 23 games for MU. Harding is also shooting 34.9 percent from deep.
  • Noah Rivera grabs a team-high 7.9 rebounds, also posting 10.5 points per game.
  • Stone McCreary has a team-high 45 three-point makes, pouring in 9.0 points per game. McCreary has seen over 60 percent of his field goal makes this season come from behind the arc.
Against Misericordia All-Time: The Monarchs are 23-19 against their rivals up the hill, though Misericordia has held control of the series lately. MU has taken the last eight games overall, with the last win for King's coming in 2015. KC won the first 10 games in the series, dating back to 1981. Earlier this season, MU topped King's by two in Wilkes-Barre, 72-70.

Up Next: King's will honor its lone senior, James Willis, prior to Saturday's game against Manhattanville College in McGrane Gymnasium at 3 PM in the season finale.
