Matthew Nelson set school records in the high jump and long jump to highlight an excellent day by the King's College men's indoor track and field team on Saturday at Susquehanna University.
There was no team scoring at the invitational.
On the Track
60 Meter Dash
For the second straight weekend
Emmanuel Edoukou had the eight-fastest time in the preliminaries but just missed qualifying for the final with a time of 7.17 seconds to finish second in the first of nine heats.
Richard Kell ran 7.67 seconds in the seventh heat to finish fifth in the heat.
Chibuikem Anyachebelu was fifth in the sixth heat with a time of 7.84 seconds.
Stevenson had the top two finishers of 53 sprinters on the day as sophomore Dereck Davis outraced senior teammate Kendall Belser 6.99 seconds to 7.05 seconds in the finals. Davis and Belser entered the weekend with the fastest times in the Middle Atlantic Conference this season. Edoukou is fifth on that list. Davis won the sixth heat in preliminaries with a time of 6.98 seconds while Belser topped the ninth heat in 7.05 seconds. Donovan Fiore of Washington and Lee won Kell's heat in 7.16 seconds.
200 Meter Dash
James Powell was the lone Monarchs to run on Saturday in the event as the sophomore finished fourth in the first of 11 heats in 29.18 seconds. Omar Harvey of Gallaudet won the heat in 24.91 seconds.
Gallaudet had the top two times at the meet as teammates Eric Gregory and Toraneau Varice won the 10th and 11th heats with the best times of the day. Gregory finished in 22.75 seconds while Varice ran 23.16 seconds.
800 Meter Run
Daniel Michels was eighth in the second of four heats while
Steffen Hude was right behind him in ninth. Michels just missed his career best time by under a second running 2:12.74 while Hude beat his career best by three seconds running 2:16.39. Nathan Skrutski of Marywood won the heat in 2:07.82.
The top seven times came from the fourth heat as Bloomsburg freshman Tyler Bailey topped the field of 43 in 1:57.00. DeSales sophomore Matthew Kraus was second in 1:58.21.
1 Mile Run
Matt Schoch was eighth in the first of three heats with a time of 5:14.44. Nathan Skrutski of Marywood won the heat in 4:42.60. Marywood sophomore David Haines had the best time in the field at 4:25.03 while Catholic junior Cosmo Pirozzi was second in 4:30.12.
3000 Meter Run
Monarch senior
Michael Duncklee ran 10:04.07 to finish fifth in the first of two heats. Eastern had the best two times in the heat as Bryton Henry ran 9:37.60 edging teammate Brandon Forino at the line. Dickinson seniors Eric Hermann and Duncan Hopkins went 1-2 in the second heat to top the field of 21. Hermann ran 8:49.42 while Hopkins finished in 8:57.31.
4x200 Meter Relay
The squad of
Emmanuel Edoukou,
Richard Kell,
Matthew Nelson, and
Cole Horan were within two seconds of the school record while finishing third in the first of three heats. Marywood won the heat in 1:37.78. Stevenson and Lebanon Valley had the top two times while running in the third heat. Stevenson won in 1:32.51 while Lebanon Valley was second in 1:32.83.
4x400 Meter Relay
King's team of

Steffen Hude,
Daniel Michels, and
Michael Duncklee had a time of 4:01.71 to finish third in the first of three heats. Marywood won the heat in 3:42.26. Elizabethtown won heat two in 3:34.48 while DeSales was second while winning heat three in 3:34.88.
Distance Medley Relay
Steffen Hude,
Kevin Wrobleski,
Daniel Michels, and
Michael Duncklee finished eighth of nine teams in 12:14.61. Stevenson won in 10:41.10 while Lebanon Valley was second in 10:41.45.
Field Events
High Jump
Matthew Nelson equaled his school record and finished tied for fourth of 14 jumpers with a height of 1.80 meters (5'10.75"). Nelson passed at 1.70 meters and then hit his first attempt at both 1.75 meters and 1.80 meters. He missed all three attempts at 1.85 meters (6'0.75"). Clement Onyebadi of Stevenson won with a height of 1.90 meters (6'2.75") while Washington and Lee sophomore Jack Teagle was second with the same height but took more attempts to hit it.
Pole Vault
Zachary Matson recorded a height of 3.30 meters (10'10") on his first attempt. He then missed all three attempts at 3.45 meters (11'3.75").
Kevin Wrobleski missed all three of his attempts at 3.30 meters. Ryan Atcavage of Marywood won with a height of 4.50 meters (14'9") while Dickinson junior Adam Gamber was second in 4.20 meters (13'9.25").
Long Jump
Matthew Nelson recorded his second school record of the day with a mark of 6.20 meters (20'4.25") on his third attempt to finish seventh out of 32. He started with a jump of 6.03 meters which would also have broken the school record and then got better with a jump of 6.12 meters before hitting his best of the day to qualify for the finals. He did not jump in the finals passing on all three turns.
Cole Horan finished with a mark of 5.79 meters (19'0") on his third jump. Horan hit 5.54 meters on his first attempt and didn't record a mark on his second.
Nick Greenberg of W&L won with a jump of 6.94 meters (22'9.25") on his third attempt. Gettysburg junior Kenneth Barnes was second in 6.65 meters (21'10) on his sixth jump of the day.
Shot Put
King-Shakim Rose finished second of 36 throwers with a mark of 13.54 meters (44'5.25") on his fifth attempt. The freshman qualified for the finals with marks of 13.21 meters, 13.36 meters, and 13.17 meters. In the finals he threw 13.24 meters before his best throw and then fouled on his final attempt.
Justin Le Cadre threw 12.03 meters (39'5.75") on his third attempt to finish 16th. Le Cadre began with a mark of 11.04 meters and fouled on his second attempt. Lebanon Valley junior Trent Donlan won with a mark of 13.94 meters (45'9") on his third throw of the afternoon.
Weight Throw
Justin Le Cadre finished third of 36 throwers with a season best mark of 14.93 meters (48'11.75") on his fourth try. The freshman began with a foul before throws of 13.16 meters and 12.59 meters to qualify for the finals. He then hit his best mark before fouling on his last two attempts.
King-Shakim Rose was seventh with a season best toss of 13.41 meters (44'0") on his second throw. Rose fouled on his first, third, and sixth attempts while hitting 13.16 meters and 12.90 meters on his fourth and fifth tries. DeSales junior Chris Brinkman won with a mark of 16.82 meters (55'2.25") on his second attempt. Matthew Loeh of Bloomsburg was second in 15.74 meters (51'7.75") on his fourth throw.
King's will next compete in the MAC Championships next Friday and Saturday at Lehigh University's Rauch Fieldhouse in Bethlehem.
