BETHLEHEM, PA (February 23, 2019) – The King's College men's indoor track and field team had their best finish at the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships this weekend as freshman King-Shakim Rose was named the Co-Rookie of the Year after winning the shot put with a school record mark.
 
Stevenson University ran away with the team title after a narrow victory last year by scoring 157 points to Widener's 115. Lebanon Valley was third with 98 points, Messiah was fourth with 93 points, and Eastern was fifth with 84.5 points. Misericordia was sixth with 61 points, King's finished seventh with a school record 52 points, and DeSales was eighth with 49 points. Hood with 11 points, Alvernia with 7.5, Manhattanville with five, and Albright with four points rounded out the scoring.
 
Dereck Davis of Stevenson and Frank Livolsi of Widener were named the Co-Track Athletes of the Year. Evan Wildermuth was named the Field Athlete of the Year. Rose and Logan Grauer of Lebanon Valley were named the Co-Rookies of the year and Stevenson head coach Dave Berdan was the Coach of the Year.
 
On the Track
60 Meter Dash 
Emmanuel Edoukou nearly duplicated his school record time form the preliminaries last night to finish third in the eight-person final with a time of 7.10 seconds. The sophomore scored six points while earned Third Team All-MAC honors. Dereck Davis of Stevenson won gold in 6.94 seconds while teammate Kendall Belser was second in 6.99 seconds. The Mustangs had five sprinters in the field putting 28 points towards their team total.
  
200 Meter Dash 
Emmanuel Edoukou was disqualified for running out of his lane around the back turn. Had he not have been disqualified the sophomore would have finished fourth while equaling his school record time of 22.97 seconds. Kendall Belser and Dereck Davis of Stevenson had the top two times in the fourth and fastest heat. Belser won the gold medal in 22.40 seconds while Davis finished second in 22.86 seconds. Nathan Anzel of Lebanon Valley earned bronze in 22.92 seconds.
 
400 Meter Dash
Mitchell Forgash scored five points by finishing fourth overall out of 21 runners and third in the fifth heat with a time of 51.44 seconds. The freshman gave Stevenson teammates Ritchie Case and Iddriss Iddriss a great race as the three finished within a half second of each other. Case won the heat and the gold meal with a time of 50.99 seconds while Iddriss was second in 51.39 seconds edging Forgash at the line. Devin Oyola of Misericordia won the fourth heat in 51.42 to finish third overall and earn the bronze medal.
 
800 Meter Run 
Mitchell Forgash had a very short rest after running the 400 and finished 12th with a time of 2:10.09. The freshman tried his best to push through the first couple of laps despite not feeling the best but was unable to keep up with the leaders. Once he fell out of being able to be on the podium, he cruised the rest of the way to save his legs for the 4x400 relay Sean Stovall of Widener took home the gold with a time of 1:55.95 while Iddriss of Stevenson was second in 1:56.22. Matthew Royer of Messiah won bronze in 1:56.53.
 
4x400 Meter Relay
The team of Emmanuel Edoukou, Matthew Nelson, Mitchell Forgash, and Michael Duncklee finished fourth in the first of two heats and 10th of 12 teams overall with a school record time of 3:45.66. Edoukou got the Monarchs off to a great start in the first 200 meters but the sprinter faded over the final half of his split before Nelson took over. Nelson kept the Monarchs in good position before Forgash took over with a great split to put the Monarchs back within striking distance of reaching the podium. Duncklee, a senior distance runner ran the best 400 meters of his career to close out the race and his collegiate indoor career in the final event. The previous record was 3:48.33 run at Cornell earlier this year. Widener won the gold medal in 3:27.65 leading for nearly the whole race. Lebanon Valley nearly caught them on the final lap to finish second in 3:27.92. Stevenson was third in 3:30.49.
 
4x800 Meter Relay 
Michael Duncklee, Matt Schoch, Daniel Michels, and Steffen Hude did what they needed to do to score and point by finishing the race in 8:59.11 to finish eighth out of eight teams. DeSales won the gold medal in 8:06.59 while Messiah was second in 8:06.61. Eastern was third in 8:11.82.
 
Field Events
High Jump
Matthew Nelson continued his excellent weekend by breaking another school record and earning another trip to the podium by finishing tied for seventh and scoring one point with a height of 1.83 meters (6'0") Nelson outjumped his previous best height of 1.80 meters he achieved at the Diplomat Open and last week. The sophomore passed until 1.78 meters. He needed three attempts to hit that height before accomplishing 1.83 meters on his second try. He missed all three attempts at 1.88 meters (6'2").
 
Widener sophomore Valiant McKee won gold at a height of 1.96 meters (6'5"). Olutobi Olugbenga of Misericordia and Clement Onyebadi of Stevenson both hit 1.93 meters (6'4") but Olugbenga hit it on less tries to earn silver while Onyebadi took home bronze.
  
Triple Jump
Cole Horan hit his season best jump of 11.80 meters (38'8.75") on his third attempt to finish 15th. The freshman started with a mark of 11.50 meters and then fouled on his second try. Eastern sophomore Evan Wildermuth won with a jump of 14.19 meters (46'6.75") on his sixth jump. Teniola Oladeji of Eastern was second with a mark of 14.05 meters (46'1.25") on his sixth attempt while Misericordia senior Olutobi Olugbenga took home bronze in 13.91 meters (45'7.75") on his fifth jump.
 
Shot Put 
Freshman King-Shakim Rose came up big when he needed to by becoming King's second-ever men's MAC Champion with a school record throw of 14.03 meters (46'0.5") on his sixth and final attempt of the day. Entering the throw Rose sat fourth but changed all that with his school record toss. He bettered his previous record of 13.83 meters that he threw at this same facility last month. Rose earned All-MAC First Team honors and scored a huge 10 points for the Monarchs. He fouled on his first attempt and then rattled off marks of 12.68 meters, 13.06 meters, 12.86 meters, and 13.60 meters before his last attempt. Justin Le Cadre also had a career best throw of 13.68 meters (44'10.75") on his first attempt to finish third and score six points while earning his second All-MAC Third Team honors of the weekend. Le Cadre hit 13.29 meters before fouling on his third attempt. In the finals he threw 13.27 meters and 13.07 meters while fouling on his final attempt as he tried to match Rose's mark. Jackie Ni finished 10th with a mark of 12.56 meters (41'2.5") on his third attempt. Ni started the day with throws of 11.04 meters and 12.10 meters. In the finals he fouled on his first attempt before hitting marks of 12.04 meters and 12.83 meters. Lebanon Valley junior Trent Donlan was second with a toss of 13.85 meters (45'5.25") on his sixth and final attempt. Donlan led after prelims with a throw of 13.84 meters.
 
The indoor season is now over for most of the Monarchs. There are still a few that might compete next Friday at the Tufts Last Chance Meet.
