WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 7, 2019) – The King's College women's ice hockey team will be back in action this weekend for a home-and-home United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) series with the Flying Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College. The Monarchs will host LVC on Saturday afternoon before traveling down to Hershey on Sunday.

Last Time Out: The Monarchs had a strong weekend against the Amcats of Anna Maria College but were unable to come away with a win as they fell 2-0 to AMC before settling for a 3-3 tie. King's held a 36-22 shot advantage in the tie and were 15.8 seconds away from recording their second victory of the year before the Amcats scored a power play goal with an extra attacker on the ice.
Emma Zeveney was strong in goal all weekend making 32 saves in the tough loss and 19 in the tie. Two of the goals scored by AMC over the weekend were power play goals.
Maggie Gould scored King's first goal while
Josée Aitken and
Caitlin Redden added a goal and an assist each.
Meghan Mietlicki recorded two assists.
The Flying Dutchmen were up in Wilkes-Barre last night where they came away with a 1-1 tie with Wilkes after scoring with 17 seconds left in regulation. Olivia Cindrich scored for LVC off a rebounded shot by Amy Templeman. Lebanon Valley held a 45-16 shot advantage as Jillian Moffatt made 15 saves in goal.
The Book On The Monarchs (1-19-1, 0-14-0 UCHC, 0-4-0 MAC):
- King's will close out their second season with a pair of home-and-home series with Lebanon Valley and Neumann. The Monarchs will play on home ice at Revolution in the first game of each series before traveling down to Hershey and Aston for the series finales the next two weekends.
- Sophomores Josée Aitken and Caitlin Redden have been playing really well lately and it showed in the tie against Anna Maria as both forwards recorded two points on a goal and an assist. Aitken has tallied one goal and four assists this year while Redden's two points were her first of the season.
- Sophomores Gracen Mahoney and Kellie Munro lead the team in points. Mahoney has seven points on four goals and three assists while Munro totals six points on two goals and four assists. Munro was strong in the faceoff circle last week winning 30 of her 60 attempts.
- Maggie Gould scored her fourth goal of the season on Saturday which ties Mahoney for the most on the team. The freshman has two power play goals this season while adding an assist.
- The Monarch defense has blocked 380 shots this season. Freshmen Meghan Mietlicki has blocked a team-leading 64 while Morgan Almond has 58 blocked shots. Sophomore Kelly Tuffy adds 43 blocks including 11 last weekend. Tuffy had a great defensive game against the Amcats on Friday night blocking a career high eight shots.
- Freshman Erin King has been very consistent for the Monarchs this year starting every game. She has blocked 29 shots on defense and was moved to the forward line last weekend as a center where she won 21 of 40 faceoffs. King recorded an assist on King's third goal on Saturday for her second of the season.
- Sophomores goalies Emma Zeveney and Kiva Sierra Stoltz have seen nearly identical time in net this season. Zeveney has recorded a 6.75 GAA and .872 save percentage making 482 saves in 631:31 minutes of action. Stoltz has played 613:29 minutes and has a 7.04 GAA and a .867 save percentage making 468 saves.
- One of King's biggest problems this season has been penalties, however they have been strong competitors on the penalty kill. The Monarchs are currently ranked 10th in the nation with 10.7 penalty minutes per game. The Monarchs have been successful on 78 of 105 penalty kills.
- King's has a combined special teams percentage of 47.7 which ranks 46th in the nation.
The Book On The Flying Dutchmen (4-16-1, 1-15-0 UCHC, 0-4-0 MAC):
- Lebanon Valley enters this weekend series looking for their first MAC win of the season and they close out their conference schedule. The Flying Dutchmen have picked up two wins over Post, a win at Chatham, and a win and a tie against Wilkes this year.
- LVC broke a four-game losing and scoreless streak last night against Wilkes. The Dutchmen have not scored in UCHC play since a 4-3 loss to Neumann back on January 8.
- The Flying Dutchmen have scored 22 goals in 21 games this year which is ranked 61st of 66 teams in Division III.
- Junior goaltender Jillian Moffatt will end the year with the most saves in the nation as her 966 saves are currently 206 more than the next closest netminder. She has played all but 35:46 minutes for the Dutchmen and has recorded a 3.14 GAA and a .932 save percentage.
- Olivia Cindrich scored the game-tying goal last night for her team-leading 11th point of the season. The freshman has six goals and five assists this year skating in all 21 games.
- Sophomore Chloe Glass and senior captain Amy Templeman have contributed seven points each. Templeman assisted on the goal against Wilkes last night for her fifth of the season. She has also scored two goals. Glass has four goals and three assists.
- Mychaela Pitta, Rachel Havrylkoff, and Taylor Borrelli have totaled four points each this season. Pitta has three goals and an assist while Havrylkoff and Borrelli have two goals and two assists each.
- Lebanon Valley has recorded 9.0 penalty minutes per game this season which is ranked 26th. They have killed off 69 of 88 power play chances for a 78.4 percentage. LVC has a combined special teams percentage of 43.6 which is ranked 57th of 66 teams.
Up Next: King's will finish the season with another home-and-home series, this time with Neumann University. The Monarchs will host the Knights on Friday evening at 7 p.m. before traveling down the northeast extension to Aston for a Saturday afternoon puck drop at Iceworks Skating Complex.
