Monarch Softball Game Notes - Albright College and Delaware Valley University

WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 3, 2019) – King's College is to compete Thursday at 3:00 p.m. against fellow Middle Atlantic Conference member, Albright College. This will be a non-conference game series between the Monarchs and Lions. King's will then match-up Saturday against Delaware Valley University in a conference doubleheader.

Last Time Out: King's College split their doubleheader 1-1 against University of Scranton, playing one of their best games of the season so far. Monarchs improve to 9-12 and the Royals move to 17-6. King's won 3-2 and lost 4-1 in the doubleheader.
 
In game one, King's registered three runs off seven hits, Kristi Ann Skok was responsible for all three RBI's in the game for a career high and making her total for the season ten. Sophomore Nicole Kirse took the circle for King's pitching a complete game and improving her record to 3-6. Kirse allowed eight hits while striking out five of the 33 batters she faced.
 
For game two, Gianna Marsico took her first loss of the season now at 3-1 after seven innings pitched, seven hits and two strikeouts while Kris Kocher allowed one hit and struck out three of her four batters. Junior Mackenzie Yori has 15 runs total as well as 11 stolen bases after today's games.
 

The Book on The Monarchs (9-12, 1-5 MAC Freedom):
  • King's is still at seven in the MAC Freedom overall and is now third in batting average (.291) but remains at second in fielding (.969)
  • In conference pitching, King's holds an ERA of 3.05 placing them at third behind Manhattanville and Misericordia.
  • Against Scranton this past Monday, King's recorded a MAC game high number of putouts with 24.
  • Sophomore Gabby Leary has 104 putouts on the season so far while Yori has 58 assists
  • The last time King's and Albright met was last season where the Lions took both ends of the doubleheader while last season against Del Val the Monarchs swept the Aggies.
  • Gabby Medina and Skok are tied for first in the conference for doubles both with eight while Yori is second in stolen bases recording 11 in total.
  • A battle of the pitchers will ensue as Kocher is third in the MAC Freedom for batters struckout at 40 and Del Val's Jamie Stefani is second at 47.
The Book on The Lions (8-8, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth):
  • Albright is second in the Mac Commonwealth but last in batting (.329) andfirst in fielding (.972).
  • The Lions are on a three-game win streak with two of the three being won in five innings. All three games Albright won by more than five runs.
  • Albright's pitchers have a 5.79 combined ERA putting them at ninth in the conference.
  • Allison Melahn has a 4-3 record with 24 strikeouts and 27 runs in 42 innings pitched.
  • In batting, Camille Sears tops the Lions with an average of .533 as well as 13 runs, 19 RBI's and two homers.
  • Sears is first in the conference for her batting average and ranked 28 nationally.
  • Kelly Cembrale is first in the Commonwealth for triples with three so far on the season. She holds a .390 slugging percentage she also leads the team in assists on the field with 36.
  • Collecting 59 putouts on the season on 64 chances is Kaitlyn Chell who has made four fielding double-plays as well.

The Book on The Aggies (6-10, 2-4 MAC Freedom):
  • Del Val is currently fifth in the MAC Freedom overall while sitting at seventh in batting (.286) and last in fielding (.920)
  • Delaware Valley's last win was against DeSales University 8-7 on the road in March as the Aggies are 1-5 in away games.
  • The team is seventh in pitching with a 6.14 ERA.
  • Pitcher Stefani has 47 strike outs with 23 of those are strikeouts looking and 58 runs in 48.1 innings pitched.
  • Stefani also leads the Aggies in batting with a .540 average placing her at second in the conference and ranked 24 nationally. She is first in the Freedom for slugging percentage (.920) as well and ranked 18 for that category.
  • Maddy O'Donohue has recorded 74 putouts on 80 chances this season while Faith Sleva leads in assists with 30.
