Monarchs Move Up To Fourth After Another Strong Throwing Performance At MAC Championships

CHESTER, PA (May 3, 2019) – The King's College throwers scored 18 points in the discus to lead the Monarchs to move up the standings on day two of the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship in Chester. KC is poised to score a lot of points on Saturday with Emmanuel Edoukou and Mitchell Forgash qualifying for multiple finals.

Eastern University had a strong day to take the team lead with 53 points. Stevenson University moved into second with 46.5 points. Host Widener University is third with 40 points while KC is fourth with 33 points. Messiah College is in fifth with 31 points and day one leader DeSales University is sixth with 29 points. Lebanon Valley College is seventh with 23.5 points, Misericordia University is eighth with 17 points, Hood College is ninth with 16 points, and Alvernia University rounds out the top 10 with 12 points. Delaware Valley University has 10 points while Manhattanville College has one point.
 
On the Track
100 Meter Dash
Emmanuel Edoukou won the first of three heats to qualify for Saturday's final with a time of 11.10 seconds. Widener sophomore Matthew Ludow was right behind him in 11.12 seconds as the pair had the fifth and sixth fastest times in the field of 18. Stevenson had the three fastest times of the day as sophomore Dereck won the third heat in 10.84 seconds, senior Kendall Belser won the second heat in 10.93 seconds, and senior Malcolm Hayward finished second in the third heat at 10.94 seconds.

200 Meter Dash
Emmanuel Edoukou will go for two titles on Saturday after the sophomore qualified for the final by winning the first of four heats in a school record time of 22.45 seconds. He lowered his previous record of 22.47 seconds from the Holiday Invitational. Edoukou had the third-fastest time in the field of 23. Messiah freshman Brendan Provan finished second in the heat to Edoukou and earned the last qualifying spot in tomorrow's final with a time of 22.72 seconds. Stevenson sprinters won the other three heats and have half of the field in the final. Kendall Belser won the fourth heat in 21.85 seconds, Dereck Davis won the third heat in 221.17 seconds, and Malcolm Hayward won the second heat in 22.53 seconds.

400 Meter Dash
Mitchell Forgash lowered his school record while qualifying for Saturday's final with the second-fastest time in the field of 15 at 49.45 seconds. The freshman entered the weekend having run 50.00 seconds at the Holiday Invitational. Forgash was edged at the line in the first of two heats by DeSales junior Marc Brown who finished in 49.31 seconds. 2019 Indoor Champion Ritchie Case had the third-best time while winning the second heat in 49.96 seconds.

800 Meter Run
Mitchell Forgash will try to win two titles on Saturday after qualifying for the final with the fastest time in the field of 21 with another school record time of 1:53.71 to win the first of three heats. He lowered his previous record of 1:55.09 that he ran at Messiah. Eastern junior Rusty Batykefer was edged by Forgash at the line running 1:53.74 to finish second in the heat. Messiah sophomore Matthew Royer was right behind them with a time of 1:53.85 to finish third in the heat. Papa Diop of Manhattanville won the third heat in 1:55.69 while DeSales senior Patrick Ludlow won the second heat in 1:55.74.

4x100 Meter Relay
King's qualified for Saturday's final as the team of Emmanuel Edoukou, Matthew Nelson, Kris Boxter, and Mitchell Forgash ran a time of 44.78 to finish fifth in the second of two heats while having the seventh-best time in the field of 11. Stevenson won the heat with the fastest time of the day as the team of Morgan Cheatham, Kendall Belser, Malcolm Hayward, and Dereck Davis came just shy of the MAC Championship record with a time of 41.90 seconds. Lebanon Valley and Widener had the second and third best times in the first heat. The LVC squad of Logan Grauer, Luke Williams, Matthew Weck, and Owen Buhr ran 42.79 seconds to win the heat while Matthew Ludlow, Goodnews Ayichi, Will Gould, and Omari Ranson ran 43.01 seconds to finish second in the heat.
 
Field Events
Long Jump
Matthew Nelson equaled the school record of 6.24 meters (20'5.75") on his third jump to finish 10th out of 20. The sophomore got better as the day went on with marks of 6.06 meters and 6.16 meters on his first two attempts. He was 0.04 meters shy of qualifying for the finals. Hood junior A.J. Lewis won gold with a jump of 6.95 meters (22'9.75") on his sixth jump. Eastern sophomore Evan Wildermuth was second with a jump of 6.94 meters (22'9.25") on his second attempt while Widener sophomore Matthew Ludlow jumped 6.63 meters (21'9") on his first try to finish third.

Discus
The Monarchs throwers put together another great performance with 18 points with three of the top five finishers and a school record mark. King-Shakim Rose finished second to score eight points and All-MAC Second Team honors with a career best throw of 44.86 meters (147'2") on his third attempt. He bettered the previous record of 42.55 meters that Justin Le Cadre threw at the Holiday Invitational. Rose fouled on his second, fourth, and sixth tries while hitting marks of 43.58 meters and 40.84 meters on his other two throws. Le Cadre was third to score six points and earn All-MAC Third Team honors with a season best mark of 43.22 meters (141'9") on his second attempt. The freshman started with a mark of 41.25 meters and then hit 40.30 meters on his third attempt. In the finals he recorded marks of 43.08 meters and 39.71 meters before fouling on his last attempt. Izuchukwu Mozie finished fifth to score four points with a mark of 41.41 meters (135'10") on his second attempt. The freshman fouled on his other five tosses. Jackie Ni was King's fourth thrower in the field of 18 and finished 11th with a season best toss of 37.18 meters (122'0") on his third throw. The sophomore hit 32.74 meters on his first attempt and fouled on his second. Delaware Valley junior Alexander Weisgerber won his second consecutive title with a mark of 48.33 meters (158'7") on his first throw. He fouled on his other five attempts. DeSales junior Chris Brinkman was fourth with a mark of 43.16 meters (141'7") on his first attempt.

Decathlon
Kevin Wrobleski finished 12th of 13 with 4079 points after a strong second day by the freshman. He started the day with a season best time of 21.75 seconds in the 110 hurdles to score 224 points. He beat his previous best time of 22.61 seconds that he ran at the Holiday Invitational. Wrobleski finished third in the fourth of four heats and had the 13th-fastest time. Azel Foster of Eastern moved into first place in the point standings by winning the event in 15.88 seconds to score 746 points. Foster moved ahead of Stevenson's Ritchie Case with 4081 points after six events. Case had 3973 points while Wrobleski sat 12th with 2345 points. Wrobleski recorded another season best mark in the discus with a throw of 24.50 meters (80'4") on his third attempt to score 357 points. He had marks of 21.64 meters and 22.07 meters on his first two throws. The freshman's previous best mark was 21.95 meters (72'0") that he threw last weekend at the Monarch Open. Case got his lead back from Foster by winning the event with a mark of 34.08 meters (111'10") on his third toss to score 545 points. After seven events Case had 4518 points while Foster was at 4473 points. Wrobleski had the ninth best discus throw to move up to 11th place with 2702 points.

One of Wrobleski's strongest events, the pole vault, was up next and the freshman shined once again recording a career best height of 3.45 meters (11'3.75") to score 469 points and finish seventh in the event. His previous best height was 3.25 meters (10'8") at the Golden Ram Invitational. Wrobleski entered the competition at 3.15 meters and needed three tries to clear that height. He then cleared 3.25 meters and 3.35 meters on his second attempt of both heights. It took him three tries to clear 3.45 meters before missing all three attempts at 3.55 meters. Lebanon Valley freshman Dawsen Miller had the best height at 4.15 meters (13'7.25") to score 659 points. Foster moved back in front of Case with a big jump to take a 5049-5040 lead heading into the final two events. Despite his strong showing in the event Wrobleski moved down to 12th with 3171 points. The freshman recorded another season best mark in the javelin with a throw of 27.33 meters (89'8") on his first attempt to score 262 points. He fouled on his other two tosses while beating his previous best mark of 24.70 meters (81'0") at the Monarch Open last week. Messiah sophomore Caleb Puleo had the best throw in the field at 46.58 meters (152'10") on his first throw to score 538 points. Case finished ahead of Foster to take the lead back heading into the final event. Case had 5475 points with Foster just 30 points back at 5445. Wrobleski stayed in 12th with 3433 points.

Wrobleski was just shy of his career best 1500 meters time in the final event but still won in 4:45.44 to score 646 points. Wrobleski's best time is 4:44.46. The freshman won by two seconds over Puleo who finished in 4:47.27. In the race for the MAC title Case finished ahead of Foster by under a second to clinch the gold medal. Case finished seventh in 5:03.62 while Foster ran 5:03.83. Case won his second consecutive title with 6014 points while Foster was second with 5983 points. Puleo was third with 5562 points.  

(Thursday Recap) Kevin Wrobleski has scored 2121 points after the first day of competition to sit in 12th place out of 13 competitors. The freshman started with a career best time of 12.86 seconds in the 100 meters to score 492 points. His previous best was 13.31 seconds. Wrobleski finished seventh in the second of two heats as Stevenson sophomore Rictchie Case won with the day's fastest time of 11.28 seconds to score 799 points. In the long jump Wrobleski record a mark of 5.09 meters (16'8.50") on his first jump to score 400 points. He recorded marks of 5.03 meters and 5.01 meters on his other two jumps. Eastern freshman Azel Foster had the best jump in the field with a mark of 6.81 meters (22'4.25") on his third attempt to score 769 points. Azel took the lead over Case 1540-1476 after two events while Wrobleski moved up to 12th with 892 points.

Wrobleski recorded another season best mark in the shot put with a distance of 8.16 meters (26'9.25") on his first attempt to score 376 points. His previous best was 8.00 meters (26'3") last week at the Monarch Open. The freshman had throws of 7.61 meters and 7.10 meters on his other two throws. Case took the lead back with the best throw of the day at 10.53 meters (34'6.75") on his first attempt to score 518 points. After three events, Case held a 1994-1962 lead over Foster while Wrobleski stayed 12th with 1268 points. The freshman jumped a season best 1.41 meters (4'7.5") in the high jump to score 324 points besting his previous best height of 1.35 meters (4.5") from the Holiday Invitational. Wrobleski cleared 1.29 meters, 1.32 meters, 1.35 meters, 1.38 meters, and 1.41 meters on his first try before missing 1.44 meters. Foster jumped 1.83 meters (6'0") to score 653 points topping Case who jumped 1.80 meters (5'10.75") to score 627 points. Foster closed the gap a little bit but Case still led 2621-2615 after the fourth event while Wrobleski moved down to 13th with 1592 points.

In the final event of the day, the 400 meters, Wrobleski ran a season best time of 56.78 seconds to score 529 points. The freshman finished fifth in the second of two heats with the 10th fastest time. His previous best time was 58.59 seconds run at the Holiday Invitational. Case won the first heat with the fastest time of the day at 50.26 seconds to score 803 points. Foster won the second heat in 52.11 seconds to score 720 points. Case has 3434 points midway through to lead the competition. Foster is a close second with 3335 points. Alvernia's Adam Loehr is third with 2963 points, Caleb Puleo of Messiah is fourth with 2947 points, and Hood's Frederick Roberts is fifth with 2869 points. Wrobleski moved up to 12th after the fifth event with his 2121 points. He is 50 points shy of Timothy Nilsen of Widener is 11th at 2171 points and nearly 100 points clear of Trevor Keefer of Alvernia in 13th place with 2033 points. The two-day event will finish up tomorrow with the 110  hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500 meters.

The Middle Atlantic Championships will wrap up tomorrow starting at 12 pm.
