FINAL RESULTS
WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 11 2020) -- Freshman
Rachel Woomer and sophomore Elizabeth Savidge both earned three victories apiece Saturday, leading the King's College women's swimming team to its first win over Messiah College since 2010 with a 157-104 victory in action from Scandlon Pool.
The Monarchs (5-2) got things going early on in the meet as the "A" relay of Savidge, Woomer,
Kaelyn Gardner and
Alexis Majka teamed together to post a 1:55.74 to earn the 200 medley relay along with the 11 points that come with the win. Freshman
Sarah Fleisher and senior
Kailie Karensky went 2-3 in the 1000 yard freestyle to pick up seven points, as Fleisher took second with a 11:51.04 while Karensky tallied a 12:06.74.
In the 200 freestyle, sophomore
Claire Coe led the charge with a victory after swimming a time of 2:04.18 followed closely by a 2:05.62 from Majka for second place.
Kiera Booth, who missed the first semester due to injury, was fourth with a 2:14.20. Savidge recorded her first win of the day with a season-best time in the 100 backstroke, swimming a 1:03.85 to win by over two seconds over teammate
Noelle Pedersen and her 1:05.90.
The Monarchs saw
Amina Zaidi lead the way with a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, as she tallied a team-best time of 1:14.06. Woomer was next in the pool for her first individual race of the team, rolling to a 12-second win with a 2:12.72 in the 200 butterfly. Fleisher was third with a 2:26.08, while Gardner finished fourth after recording a 2:26.10. Majka led the way in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events for King's, taking second in the 50 with a 26.30 while her 57.60 in the 100 free gave her the victory.
In the 200 backstroke, Savidge outlasted Maelyn Elder from Messiah at the end, as Savidge earned a win with a time of 2:18.25. Pedersen was third in the 200 backstroke with a 2:20.64, while
Katelyn Duffy was fourth with a 2:29.57. Woomer was first in the 200 breaststroke with a season-best time of 2:37.47, winning by nearly four seconds, while
Kellyo Keane also registered a personal-best 3:05.69.
The 500 freestyle saw was another strong event for King's despite not winning it, as Coe was second with a 5:43.57 while Fleisher was third with a 5:52.18 and Karensky followed in fourth place with a 5:53.83. Woomer's final win of the afternoon followed in the 100 butterfly, as she recorded a 1:01.14, while Gardner was second with a 1:05.03. Savidge's last win Saturday was in the 200 IM, as she chalked up a 2:22.92 to take the final individual event of the day.
The Monarchs will entertain Lycoming College next Saturday, January 18 at 1 p.m. in Scandlon Pool for Senior Day.
