The Coaches: Jeff Knarr is in his 12th season (11th with a season) with the Monarchs, as he is only the second coach of King's College football since 1991. Knarr took over for Rich Mannello, who was the head coach since football was reinstated at King's in 1993. Today is the 108th game that Knarr has been the head coach of the Monarchs. John Davis took over the Cougars program in July of 2021 and has posted a 2-5 overall record in his first season at the head of the Cougars football team. Prior to his time at Misericordia, Davis spent three seasons as the head coach at The Apprentice School in Newport News, Va.

Looking at Misericordia: The Cougars are on a three-game losing streak dating back to October 9, 2021. Misericordia averages 238.1 total offensive yards a game, including 146.0 yards rushing a contest. Their offense is led by David Cromwell with 66.43 average rushing yards per game with four touchdowns on 109 carriers for a total of 465 yards. Quarterback Mitchell McHale leads their offense with 52 completions on 94 attempts with three touchdowns for 446 yards of total offense. The Cougar receivers are led by Jadyn Childs with 15 catches for 182 yards and an average of 12.13 per reception. Tavio Rogers leads the defensive efforts with 65.0 total tackles, including 29 solo tackles and 8.5 tackles for a loss of 23 yards.

Uniforms: The Monarchs will be stepping out on Saturday in their white jerseys and red pants with the classic gold helmet look.

Single Digit Tough: The Monarchs award single digits based on merit, leadership and are retained throughout their time at King's, and the squad recently named one more Single Digit layer. Senior Mike Karycinski was just awarded the honor this past week and will total eight Single Digit Tough Players: Mike Karycinski (0), Gabe Boccella (2), Brendan Mozeleski (3), Charles McCall (4), Myles Shelton (5), Elijah Demosthene (6), Tommy Gilmore (7), and Tim Costantino (8).

Captains This Weekend: As they have for the past few weekends, the Monarchs will be sending out four captains for the coin toss. Tyler Moore and Gabe Boccella will represent the offense, while Jassiem Lettsome and Brendan Mozeleski will represent the defense.

A Look at the Monarchs:
  • The Monarchs have their largest senior class in program history this year, which is to be expected with the NCAA waiver that is allowing all student-athletes another year of eligibility after last year's missed CoVID-19 season.
  • King's currently has 22 seniors on the roster, and of those 22 players a total of 16 are listed on the team's two-deep including 12 starters.
  • The Monarchs bring back five All-MAC performers from 2019, including All-MAC first-team defensive back Elijah Demosthene and Second Teamers Gabe Boccella, Charles McCall and Myles Shelton.
  • King's comes into this year's season with a total of 11 coaches on staff, and of that group four are King's graduates (Ben Bakanas, Joe Damiano, Tyler Hartranft, Andrew Zub).
  • King's was picked to finish sixth in the MAC Preseason Coaches Poll, while Misericordia was selected ninth.
  • King's defense ranks fourth in the MAC in scoring as they allow just 19.9 points per game, third in total defense allowing 291.8 average yards a contest, and third in rushing defense holding teams under 100 yards a game (90.5).
  • The Monarchs special teams also continue to rank at the top of the MAC as they average 13.8 return yards per punt, good for second-best, and first with a NET average of 41.4 yards per kickoff.
  • Brennan Robinson continues to excel on the ground for the Monarchs, recording another 100-plus yard game with a touchdown last weekend against FDU-Florham. He now ranks 10th in the MAC for average rushing yards.
  • Gabe Boccella sits fourth in the conference in all-purpose yards with 108.6 yards a game off 869 total yards of offense.
  • The defensive pressure in the secondary last weekend was unmatched as Teone Sherrod totaled five pass breakups and an interception that was returned for 16 yards.
  • The duo of Brendan Mozeleski and Joseph Carchio anchored the defense with nine tackles each, while Myles Shelton added two tackles for a loss of 27 total yards. Additionally, the pair of Jassiem Lettsome and Dallas Solomon put the pressure on the Devils quarterback and their high-powered offense as Lettsome totaled three quarterback hurries while Solomon added two.
  • King's is on a two-game win streak and looks to earn its first road win of the 2021 season.
Up Next: The Monarchs remain on the road for their longest trip of the season, traveling to Stevenson University to open their November schedule. King's is set for a noon kickoff in Owings Mills, Md. on Saturday, November 6.
