WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 20, 2021) --- The King's College men's swimming team maintained its sturdy showing at the Diamond City Invitational on Saturday in the second and third sessions.
Session II
The Monarchs began the day in the 200 free relay with the 'A' team of
Kyle Altman,
Alex Schwartz,
Joel Williams, and
Andrew Pursel taking sixth out of 15 teams to earn the squad 48 points.
Jared Stephan got his Saturday underway in the 500 free with a sixth place finish at 5:06.03.
Anthony Ursini came in ninth in the event with a time of 5:12.41, over 15 seconds faster than his seed time.
Sophomore
Austin Morris swam a 2:09.34 in the 200 IM to earn seventh out of 26 swimmers.
In the 50 free,
Kyle Altman claimed sixth place overall with an impressive time of 22.81.
In the final event of the morning, the 'A' team of Morris,
Kris Boxter, Stephan and Pursel finished fourth in the 400 medley relay to give King's 52 points.
Session III
The evening session started with the 400 IM where both Stephan and
Erik Aguero placed fourth and sixth respectively. Ursini earned a ninth place finish in the 200 free, booking a 1:54.19.
The 100 breaststoke was a strong event for the Monarchs, as Boxter and Altman went 2-3 and combined for 55 points. Altman dominated his heat and swam over four seconds better than his seed time in the event.
Brent Forry and
Joel Williams finished ninth and tenth in the 100 backstroke for KC. Forry shaved over two seconds off his seed time.
In the final event of the night, the 800 free relay, King's placed sixth with the team of Morris, Stephan, Pursel, and Ursini clocking in at 7:43.37.
The Monarchs currently rank second overall with 768 points, trailing only Cabrini (937).
