Reading, PA (December 4, 2021) – The King's College Monarchs Track & Field squads posted a great first meet at the Golden Wolves Rust Buster hosted by Alvernia. A handful of Monarchs placed first in their respective events, while others put up a great showing, taking advantage of the small field.
On the Track
60 Meter Hurdles
First year duo
Victoria Zultevicz and
Autumn Steibler held their own in a tough group. Zultevicz managed to run a fast paced time of 10.91 seconds in prelims, earning the fourth spot in the finals. She would continue on this track and knock a few seconds off her time down to 10.69 seconds to hold onto that fourth-place spot for the finish. Steibler ended up just shy of qualifying for finals, coming in at 11.55 seconds in prelims for a ninth-place finish overall. Shani Hodges, of Eastern, finished first in the ten-woman heat in 9.68 seconds.
60 Meter Dash
Fellow first year pair
Abigail Springer and
Juliet Brady also triumphed to qualify for finals. Springer came in at 8.21 seconds in prelims to earn her the second spot in the finals with Brady coming in right behind her in the third spot running an 8.44 second race. Springer held onto that second-place finish in the finals with a time of 8.25 seconds. Brady unfortunately dropped down to the fifth-place spot, finishing up with a time of 8.51 seconds. Elizabeth Schwarz, of the host Alvernia, topped the fourteen-woman group in 7.98 seconds.
Junior
Alex Solano put out a great showing in the 60-meter dash. Solano coasted in the prelims to the seventh spot in the finals with a time of 7.38 seconds. He went on to drop his time to a new personal best of 7.30 seconds in the finals, earning himself a second-place finish. Solano managed to nudge out the third-place finisher by 0.003 of a second with a time of 7.297 seconds officially. First year
Brandon James put out a great effort in his first meet, finishing up with a time of 8.45 seconds. Jonathan St. Hillaire, of Delaware Valley, finished first of twenty three in 7.16 seconds.
200 Meter Dash
The Monarchs pulled together a fantastic showing on the women's side. First year
Abigail Springer continued her impressive debut by clinching another second-place finish with a time of 27.96 seconds. Junior
Angelina Broga was right on Springer's heels, coming in at the third-place position with a time of 28.06 seconds. First year
Juliet Brady pulled out another top-ten finish, finishing up in the seventh position with a time of 28.89 seconds. First years
Autumn Steibler and
Victoria Zultevicz also finished with times of 30.00 seconds and 30.20 seconds, respectively. Elizabeth Schwarz finished first, for Alvernia, in the twenty two-woman group with a time of 27.26 seconds.
Alex Solano rounded out his day with another top-ten finish, pulling in at the seventh spot with a time of 24.23 seconds. First year
Brandon James finished up the day with a time of 27.28 seconds. Messiah Smythe of Delaware Valley took first out of twenty four in 23.46 seconds.
400 Meter Dash
Junior
Angelina Broga pulled out all the stops for this one. Broga dashed away from the five-woman field for a first-place finish with a time of 1:06.06.
On the men's side, sophomore
Garret Tomasek finished up at fourth-place with a time of 55.00 seconds. George Erazo, representing El Salvador/New Balance, came out on top of the eleven-man heat with a time of 50.63 seconds.
Mile
The cross-country duo of
Beth Albright and
Zoe Tomko adjusted nicely to the faster pace of the indoor mile. Senior
Beth Albright scraped together a second-place finish with a personal best time of 5:28.09. Tomko started off strong, leading the pack for the first two laps, but she unfortunately tapered off, finishing in fourth-place with a time of 5:45.41. Tate Dawson won the seven-woman race for Arcadia in 5:26.01.
In the Field
High Jump
First year
Madison Armitage earned a fourth-place finish, hitting a mark of 1.35 meters on her third attempt. Christina D'Amato won the event with a mark of 1.45 meters on her third attempt at the height.
First year
Travis Lane showed a great deal of prospect for the upcoming season. John Villano of Albright lead the three-man pack with a mark of 1.78 meters on his third attempt at the height.
Triple Jump
Junior
Gabriella Conforti put out another great showing in the sandpit. Conforti recorded a mark of 10.32 meters on her third attempt. Conforti's mark was enough to earn her a second-place finish in the group. The four-woman field was topped by Shinelle Felix of Alvernia with a mark of 11.29 meters on her second attempt.
Shot Put
Senior
Danielle Kitchner wasted no time transitioning from volleyball to the throwing pit. Kitchner won the event with a mark of 10.55 meters on her third attempt. Sophomore
Adele Hollander fought valiantly for a third-place finish with a mark of 10.50 meters on her third attempt. The Monarch throwers sandwiched second-place finisher Susanna Pirollo who finished with a mark of 10.52 meters on her third attempt.
Not to be outdone, fellow senior
Justin Le Cadre topped the men's side of the event. Le Cadre hit a mark of 14.44 meters on his fifth attempt to seal the event. Sophomore
Jetli Tang threw well, hitting a mark of 11.21 meters on his third attempt. Alvernia's Cory Gray and Jason Scott threw 13.26 meters and 12.78 meters, respectively, for their respective second and third-place finishes.
Weight Throw
Sophomore
Anna Bellucci started the season well, earning a fourth-place finish. Bellucci used all six of her attempts to hit a mark of 9.98 meters on the last one. The field was topped by Kaitlyn Jones of Delaware Valley who hit a mark of 11.44 meters on her sixth attempt.
Senior
Justin Le Cadre finished two-for-two on first place finishes on the day. Le Cadre cranked out a new personal best of 16.97 meters on his sixth and final attempt. Sophomore
Jetli Tang only needed one attempt to solidify a fourth-place finish with a mark of 10.59 meters.
The Monarch Track & Field squads will be back in action post-holiday break. The Monarchs will travel down the river to Susquehanna University for the Susquehanna Multi & Invitational January 14
th and 15
th.
