WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 12, 2021) -- The King's College men's golf team split in their 2021 season opener on their home course at Wyoming Valley Country Club, defeating local rival Misericordia University, 340-348, and falling to the University of Scranton, 309-340. With the split, the Monarchs earn their first win of the season and improve to 1-2.
Sophomore
Tyler Faux continued his strong play this season, recording a team-low 78 (+7) on the par-71 course. Scranton's Nick Campanelli led the match shooting a 75 (+4), while teammates Matt Fleming, John Shaughnessy, and Collin Ennis as they all posted a 78 (+7) and tied for second with Faux . Matt Collins was Misericordia's low scorer with an 83 (+12).
Junior
Nicholas Kurzinsky had a strong start to his 2021 season as he recorded a career-low 79 (+8) in the match, good for a sixth-place finish. The other top Monarchs performers were all tight finishes, with senior
Evan Murphy shooting a 91 (+20), junior
Zach Edwards totaling a 92 (+21) in his collegiate debut, and sophomore
Joe Petrillo recording a 95 (+24).
King's is back in action on Wednesday, April 14 as they host cross-town rival Wilkes University at Wyoming Valley Country Club with a 1:00 p.m. tee time.
