Morano Wins Singles Title to Lead Monarchs at King's Fall Invitational

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 25, 2021) -- Junior Emily Morano earned an individual win at No. 6 singles to lead the King's College women's tennis team in the 2021 King's College Fall Invitational at Kirby Park on Saturday afternoon.

Morano defeated Arcadia's Ochs, 6-3, 6-1, in the quarterfinals before posting a similar defeat, 6-3, 6-1, over Lycoming's Angstadt. Then in the No. 6 finals, Morano dropped her opening set, 6-1, to Misericordia's Pangiochi, but rallied to take set two, 6-3, and the final set of the championship, 11-9, to earn the individual title.

Junior Addie Atkins lost at No. 1 singles in her opening round before falling in the quarterfinals to Arcadia's Paraboschi. After winning the opening set, 6-3, Atkins dropped the next two, 6-1, 11-9. At No. 2 singles, sophomore Braelan Drollas dropped her play-in game to Iordache before falling in the quarterfinals, 6-0, 6-0, to Prentar.

Then at No. 3 singles sophomore Briana Moraca earned a win in the opening round, 8-5, over Wyszkowski before being defeated in the quarterfinals by Lycoming's Wolfgang, 6-4, 6-3. Finally in No. 4 singles action, sophomore Jackie Costello fell in the quarterfinal round to Scranton's Lovato, 6-3, 6-4.

At No. 1 doubles, the pair of Atkins and Drollas fell to Lycoming, 8-1. Then at No. 2 doubles, Moraca and Costello dropped their match to Scranton, 8-0. The No. 3 doubles pair of Stettler and Morano earned their quarterfinal win, 8-3, over Arcadia. Then they advanced over Lycoming, 8-6, in the semifinals before falling to Misericordia in the finals, 8-2.

King's is back in action on Tuesday, September 28th in a home match at Kirby Park against Cairn, beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
