Men's Volleyball Earns First Road Win of 2022 with 3-0 Victory at Immaculata

IMMACULATA, PA (January 19, 2022) -- The King's College men's volleyball team continued with their positive momentum from Sunday afternoon's doubleheader sweep as they won in straight sets, 3-0, at Immaculata University on Wednesday evening. The Monarchs improve to 3-0 while the Mighty Macs drop to 0-1.

After beginning the match tied at eight a piece, King's rattled off the next seven points and never looked back as they won the opening set, 25-15. King's (3-0) trailed, 7-5, in the second set. Then as they led 13-10, the Monarchs scored nine unanswered points as they cruised to a 25-13 win in set two. Immaculata (0-1) rallied as they trailed by five, 13-8, as they went on a 9-5 run to pull within one, 18-17. King's responded by tallying a 7-4 run down the stretch to secure the set three win, 25-21, and the match, 3-0, on the road.

Sophomore Jared Piontkowksi led the offense again with 11 kills on 22 attempts with just on error, hitting .455, with three solo blocks and four digs. Junior Joe Herman also recorded double-digit kills with 11 on 22 attempts, hitting .364, with five digs. The duo of junior Sam Capwell and Matt Piontkowski rounded out the top kill totals with nine and eight, respectively, as Capwell hit .533 for the match and added two aces. Junior George Beck tallied 29 assists and six digs, while junior Aziz Atiyeh led the defensive efforts with nine digs.

Garrett Pepper led Immaculata with nine kills, Joe Martell totaled 16 helpers and seven digs, and John Carter added a team-high tying seven digs in the loss.

As a team, the Monarchs hit .390 (40-82) for the match, committing just eight errors, while holding the Mighty Macs to a -.024 hitting percentage. The Monarchs dominated inside the stat sheet, holding the advantage in points (48-27), kills (40-20), blocks (4-3), assists (35-18), and digs (36-24).

King's returns to play this weekend as they host Sarah Lawrence College in a double header in McGrane starting at 12:00 p.m. The Monarchs will have a quick turnaround as they host Drew University on Sunday with a noon start time.
