KISSIMMEE, FL (March 11, 2022) – On their final day of their spring training trip, the King's College women's tennis team dropped a pair of 8-1 decisions to University of Northwestern (MN) and Ohio Wesleyan on Friday. Both matches were made up from earlier in the week due to weather concerns down south.
vs. University of Northwestern (MN):
Sophomore
Jackie Costello earned the lone win for the Monarchs in the 8-1 loss to the University of Northwestern (MN). At No. 4 singles, Costello battled with Elli Dodge, earning the 6-4 win in the first set before dropping the second set, 1-6. The sophomore rallied in the final set to post a 10-6 decision.
At No. 1 singles, junior
Addie Atkins was defeated, 6-3, 7-6 to Belinda Weddle, and first year
Ashley Kenia fell at No. 2 singles, 6-2 and 6-0, to Annie Orvis. No. 3 singles action saw the Eagles' Taylar Smith hand sophomore
Briana Moraca losses of 6-1 and 6-2. In No. 5 singles play, first year
Hailey D'Amato dropped 6-4 and 6-3 sets to Elise Jarchow, while junior
Emily Morano lost her No. 6 singles contest 6-0 and 6-1 to Analise Marquatdt.
In No. 1 doubles, Atkins and Kenia lost to the Northwestern pair, 8-3. Then at No. 2 doubles, Moraca and Costello dropped an 8-1 decision, while No. 3 doubles duo of D'Amato and Morano posted a 8-1 loss to the Eagles.
vs. Ohio Wesleyan:
At No. 1 singles, Atkins was blanked by sets of 6-0 to the Battling Bishop. Then Kenia fell, 6-0 and 6-2, at No. 2 singles, and Moraca lost 6-1 and 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Costello lost, 6-1 and 6-0, to the Battling Bishop in No. 4 singles play. D'Amato dropped a hard-fought match as she lost the opening set, 6-3, and matched that for a 6-3 win in the second set, eventually falling 10-8 in the final set. Finally at No. 6 singles, Morano toughed out a 7-5 and 6-3 loss.
D'Amato and Morano earned the lone win of the match at No. 3 doubles with an 8-5 win over the Battling Bishops. No. 1 doubles action saw Atkins and Kenia fall 8-1, and the No. 2 doubles pair of Moraca and Costello dropped an 8-0 decision.

The Monarchs are back in action next Saturday, March 19 as they travel to Susquehanna University for a 1:00 p.m. start.
