Atkins, Morano, Costello Earn Wins in Loss to Marywood

WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 22, 2022) -- Juniors Addie Atkins and Emily Morano and sophomore Jackie Costello all earned wins in their singles action as the King's College women's tennis team fell, 6-3, to Marywood University in their spring home opener at Kirby Park on Wednesday afternoon. The Monarchs fall to 0-8 with the loss while the Pacers improve to 4-7.

Atkins opened the day with wins of 6-3 and 6-2 at No. 1 singles over Allison Bashore. First year Ashley Kenia fell by scores of 7-5 and 6-3 to Marywood's Gabriella Nowak in No. 2 singles play, while sophomore Briana Moraca dropped 6-3 and 6-0 decisions at No. 3 singles.

Morano earned her win at No. 4 singles as she handed Lyndsey Medric losses of 7-6 and 6-0. At No. 5 singles, Hailey D'Amato fell, 6-1 and 7-3, to Karah Laborani, while Costello earned her win at No. 6 singles as she defeated Kayla Flyte in the first set 6-3 before dropping set two, 6-3. Costello came back in a thrilling finish to win the final set, 10-8.

In doubles play, the pair of Atkins and Kenia fell to the No. 1 doubles pair for the Pacers, 8-4. Then in No. 2 doubles action, Morano and D'Amato dropped a tough 8-7 (7-0) contest to Marywood's duo. Sophomore Braelan Drollas and first year Sarah Stettler teamed up at No. 3 doubles as they fell, 8-2, to the Pacers.

The Monarchs will be back at Kirby Park tomorrow afternoon, weather permitting, as they take on Eastern University at 3:00 p.m.
