ORLANDO, FL (March 6, 2022) -- In their 2022 spring opener, the King's College women's tennis team fell, 6-3, to Alvernia University at the USTA National Campus to begin their spring training trip in Florida.
Junior
Emily Morano recorded two of the Monarchs three wins in the loss, putting on a dominant performance at No. 6 singles with matching 6-0 wins over Alvernia's Sabrina Heck. She than paired up with first year
Hailey D'Amato in her collegiate debut at No. 3 doubles to defeat the Golden Wolves pair, 8-2.
Sophomore Brianna Moraca picked up the other win for King's at No. 3 singles in a battle with Rachel Rineer, edging out Rineer 7-6 in the opening set before winning the second, 6-1.
At No. 1 singles, junior
Addie Atkins fell, 6-1 and 6-2, to Leah Bouchard, while first year
Ashley Kenia dropped her collegiate debut matchup at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-3, to Jillian Laughman.
Sophomore
Jackie Costello was defeated by Lily Summerson, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4 singles, and D'Amato was handed a 6-4, 6-2 loss by Alvernia's Jackelyn Mercado.
Atkins and Kenia teamed up in No. 1 doubles and fell to the Golden Wolves pair, 8-1, while Moraca and Costello dropped an 8-0 decision to Alvernia's No. 2 doubles team.
The Monarchs continue their spring break training trip tomorrow evening, March 7, at 6:30 p.m. against the University of Northwestern (MN) at the USTA National Campus facility.
