ANNVILLE, PA (April 21, 2022) -- After a less-then conventional career in the pool, King's College men's swimming standout
Jared Stephan made the most of his opportunities and excelled both in the pool and in the classroom. Stephan was honored for these successes as the MAC office announced on Thursday afternoon that Stephan has been named the MAC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's swimming.
The MAC presents scholar-athlete awards for each fall, winter, and spring sport. Winners were selected based on a combination of academic and athletic success as well as community service. The Senior Scholar-Athlete Award recognizes student-athletes for their strong academic and athletic prowess. It is the most prestigious cumulative award the conference awards and gives equal balance to both academic achievement and athletic excellence. Stephan becomes the 31st King's Senior Scholar-Athlete in school history with the recognition.
Stephan is a seven-time All-MAC honoree, including a four-time individual MAC Champion (All-MAC First Team). Stephan won the 1,650-yard freestyle twice in 2020 and 2021, the 500-yard freestyle in 2020, and the 400-yard IM in 2021. Stephan currently holds both the overall MAC and MAC Championship records in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:35.69 and the 1,650-yard freestyle in 16:02.36. He also holds five total King's program records.
Stephan is in the physician assistant program at King's with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2023 after concluding his athletic career this past year. He currently holds a 3.96 grade-point average (GPA). The Lancaster, Pa. native is a two-time Men's Swimming Academic All-MAC selection and a five-time King's College Dean's List recipient. In 2020, Stephan was named a Scholar All-American by the CSCAA.
Stephan will go down in the King's men's swimming record books as one of the most decorated individual competitors, both in the pool and in the classroom. During his time swimming for the Monarchs, he set program records in the 500-yard freestyle, 1,000-yard freestyle, 1,650-yard freestyle, and 400-yard individual IM. Academically, he earned multiple awards, as indicated above, for his ability to truly embody what it means to be a student-athlete.
