Hailey D'Amato recorded wins as the King's College women's tennis team fell, 7-2, to cross-town rival Wilkes University in MAC Freedom play on Tuesday afternoon at Kirby Park. The Monarchs fall to 1-10 overall and 0-2 in MAC Freedom play, while the Colonels improve to 4-4 with a 1-0 conference mark.
Atkins earned her win at No. 1 singles as she defeated Zoe Klein in a battle, earning a 7-6 (5-0) win in the first set and a 7-5 win in the second set. D'Amato's win came at No. 5 singles as she handed Kaitlyn O'Neil losses of 6-0 and 6-1.
In No. 2 singles play, first year
Ashley Kenia fell by matching sets of 6-0 to Dasha Yakhnis. Sophomore
Briana Moraca dropped 6-0 and 6-1 sets to Alexa Cieri, while junior
Emily Morano fell, 6-0 and 6-1, to Tea Amerise at No. 4 singles. The No. 6 singles matchup saw sophomore
Braelan Drollas fall 7-5 in the first set before tying the match with a 6-4 win in set two. Drollas would drop a 10-5 decision in the deciding set to Sydney Farmer.
The doubles pairing of Atkins and Kenia fell at No. 1 doubles, 8-1, to the Colonels pair. The No. 2 doubles action saw Morano and D'Amato drop an 8-0 loss to the Colonels, while Drollas and first year
Sarah Stettler lost 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
King's is back on the courts on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Madison, NJ to take on the Devils of FDU-Florham in a MAC Freedom match at 1:00 p.m.
