WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 17, 2022) - - The King's College Monarchs women's tennis team returned to action at the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Individual Championships at Kirby Park on Saturday. The tournament saw senior Addie Atkins and sophomore Hailey D'Amato get the Monarchs two wins in the tournament as both made it to the quarterfinals in the singles bracket.
The day started out with the doubles where the No. 1 doubles pairing of sophomores Ashley Kenia and Hailey D'Amato fell to Ostermaker and Roher of York 8-1.
In the No. 2 doubles bracket Atkins and junior Jackie Costello fell to Lebanon Valley 8-2. The No. 3 doubles bracket featured junior Braelan Drollas and sophomore Sarah Stettler who had a first round bye. The pair fell to Misericordia 8-2. The No. 4 doubles duo of Emma Rooney and Christina Castellini lost to Messiah.
In the No. 2 singles bracket Atkins made quick work of Eastern's Sarah Mower winning 6-2 and 6-1 before falling to fourth ranked Sarah Kramer of Lebanon Valley in the quarterfinals.
D'Amato also made it to the quarterfinals in the No. 3 singles bracket defeating Megan Colaneri of Albright 6-4 and 6-3. D'Amato then lost to Livia Jackson of Lebanon Valley.
In the No. 1 singles bracket Kenia lost to second ranked Alexandra Pancu of Albright while Costello lost a hard-fought match in the No. 4 singles to Nicole Lee of Messiah that went to a third set.
Droillas was in the No. 5 bracket for the Monarchs where she was defeated by Stevenson's Samantha Zudov while Stettler fell in the first round of the No. 6 singles to Messiah's Angela Tozzi 6-2 and 6-4.
Rooney rounded out the day for the Monarchs singles falling in the quarterfinals of the No. 7 singles to Cassandra Benderavich of Misericordia.
The tournament will conclude tomorrow starting at 9 A.M. while the women's tennis team will next see action on Saturday October 1st as they will host the King's College Invitational.
