1/9/2023 2:05:00 PM

WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 9, 2023) – On January 27 the King's College men's ice hockey team will host Alvernia University in the first of two games against the Golden Wolves; the team will be holding Huntington's Disease Awareness Night. Additional information regarding the "King's College Hockey Fights HD" and Huntington's Disease Awareness Night can be found at the HDSA website here.

King's will be wearing custom sweaters that will be auctioned off. The link to find the jersey auction can be found HERE. We encourage all fans attending to give generously to show their support for Huntington's Disease awareness. The puck drops at 7:00pm. After the game, the commemorative jersey online auction will end. The night will also include a 50/50 raffle and a chuck-a-puck contest. All proceeds from the game will support Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA) mission to improve the lives of everyone with Huntington's disease and their families. One of those families is King's College sophomore forward Jack Cooper.

Last season, King's hosted a Prostate Cancer Awareness Game, which led Cooper to come up with the idea of a Huntington's Disease Awareness Night. For Cooper, Huntington's Disease is something that is near and dear to his heart. In the fourth grade, Cooper learned that his grandfather was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease, before his mother tested positive for the disease.

According to the Huntington's Disease Society of America, Huntington's disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. Today, there are over 41,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk for inheriting the disease. Each child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the faulty gene the causes Huntington's disease, which deteriorates a person's physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure, with symptoms of Huntington's disease being described as having ALS, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's simultaneously.

There will be a table setup inside the lobby of Revolution Ice Centre on the night of the game with informational material on Huntington's Disease awareness.
