Women's Tennis Drops Close Matches to Elizabethtown, Rutgers-Camden

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 16, 2023) – Despite some gritty efforts, the King's College women's tennis team dropped a pair of contests to Elizabethtown College and Rutgers-Camden at Kirby Park on Sunday afternoon. With the losses, the Monarchs fall to 5-10 overall.
 
Vs. Elizabethtown – L, 3-6:
In doubles play, Ashley Kenia and Hailey D'Amato defeated the Blue Jays pair, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles. Both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pairs fell to Elizabethtown, as Jackie Costello and Braelan Drollas fell, 8-0, and Payton Lloyd and Emma Rooney were downed, 8-5.
 
Kenia picked up set wins of 6-1 and 6-2 over Olivia Richards at No. 1 singles, while D'Amato defeated Gabriella Palladini, 7-5 and 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Jackie Costello dropped sets of 6-1 and 7-5 at No. 3 singles to Kaylee Mustard, while Braelan Drollas fell to a pair of 6-2 sets to Morgan Bleicher at No. 4 singles. The No. 5 singles match saw Payton Lloyd drop sets of 6-4 and 6-2 to Megan Hawkins, while Emma Rooney was downed by sets of 6-3 and 6-4 to Adriana Burmeister at No. 6 singles.
 
Vs. Rutgers-Camden – L, 4-5:
Doubles play saw the No. 1 pair of Kenia and D'Amato and the No. 2 team of Costello and Drollas both drop decisions of 8-2, while Lloyd and Rooney earned an 8-6 win at No.3 doubles.
 
In singles play, Kenia dropped a pair of 6-0 sets at No. 1 singles to Sarah Ahrens, while D'Amato won by a pair of 6-2 sets to Sam Hoban at No. 2 singles. Costello fell, 6-3 and 6-1, to Katie Moore at No. 3 singles, while Drollas was downed, 6-1 and 6-0, at NO. 4 singles to Laurel DiStefano. Lloyd picked up wins of 6-4 and 6-1 over Ashton Sirko at No. 5 singles, while Rooney won by an 8-5 decision at No.6 singles to Lindsay Hernandez.

King's will host Lycoming College in MAC Freedom play on Tuesday afternoon with match time set for 3:00 p.m. at Kirby Park.
