WILKES-BARRE, PA (May 2, 2023) -- On Tuesday evening, the King's College athletic department announced its most recent coaching change as men's and women's swimming coach Matt Easterday has accepted a new role as the next head coach at Moravian University.
"I want to thank Matt Easterday for his time at King's College," said Associate Vice President and Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Cheryl Ish. "Matt is committed to the NCAA Division III philosophy and has worked diligently to provide a great experience to his swimmers over the years. I appreciate that this is the right time for Matt and his family to move on, and I wish him the best of luck in his next stop."
Easterday has spent the last 14 seasons at King's College while also serving as the Aquatics Director. While at King's, all but two individual school records have fallen during Easterday's tenure, including each of the women's records. The Monarchs have crowned 14 individual MAC Champions while the team earned its highest finish at the MAC Swimming Championships in 2019 as they placed in the top five.
"It has been an honor and pleasure to be the Head Swimming Coach at King's College for the past 14 years," stated Easterday. "Over that time, the program has established itself as a highly competitive team within the Middle Atlantic Conference. During my time here at King's, I've had the opportunity to coach and mentor some very special student-athletes. All of the accomplishments and awards pale in comparison to the people they are, and I will truly cherish all of memories I have as a Monarch."
Individually, King's has seen 88 All-MAC honorees, four MAC Scholar-Athletes of the Year, 17 Academic All-MAC honorees, and 13 consecutive CSCAA Scholar All-America Team recognitions, including the 2010 season when the women's team ranked first in all of NCAA Division III.
"I especially want to thank Athletic Director Cheryl Ish for providing my first opportunity to be a head coach at the collegiate level," added Easterday. "Her guidance and friendship have helped me become a better coach. King's will always hold a special place in my heart, and I look forward to seeing how the program does in the future."
Easterday takes over a young program at Moravian in Bethlehem, Pa. A member of the Landmark Conference, the Greyhounds completed just their second season in 2022-23.
King's will conduct a national search to find the next head coach for the men's and women's swimming program ahead of the 2023-24 season.
