WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 30, 2025)—Head Coach Race Bennett and the King's College Men's Ice Hockey team continue to build their staff for the 2025-26 season, announcing Kevin Mackey as assistant coach.
"I am thrilled to be joining the staff here and am looking forward to continuing the growth of King's Hockey," said Mackey. "I'd like to thank Race for the opportunity to join him in this opportunity at King's."
Mackey joins King's College after gaining extensive experience across playing, coaching, and athlete advising. Most recently, he worked as a player advisor for Advancement Hockey Advising, mentoring athletes on career progression, education, and contract negotiations since July of 2024. In 2023, he played professionally in Iceland with Fjölnir Björninn while also serving as a goaltending coach within the organization's youth program.
Prior to that, Mackey spent five years coaching with Robert Morris University's Hockey Academy from 2018 to 2023, working closely with youth and adult players. He also served as an assistant coach for Robert Morris's ACHA Division 1 team during his time as a graduate student, leading recruitment and helping foster a culture of teamwork and academic excellence.
In addition to his work in hockey, Mackey has served as a Senior Representative and Short-Term Disability Claim Manager with New York Life since October 2023, where he managed over 250 claims and facilitated communication among clients, brokers, and employers.
"I am pleased to announce the addition of Kevin Mackey to our staff," added Bennett. "Kevin's passion and relentless work ethic will provide tremendous value for the program. His experience in coaching, playing, and advising will be a great asset in developing our student-athletes on and off the ice."
A Robert Morris University graduate, Mackey earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership. During his time at RMU, he played as a two-time assistant captain for the Men's ACHA Division 1 Hockey Team.
Mackey's responsibilities will include assisting with recruiting, operations, practice and game preparation, scouting, and more.
