King's Downs Salsbury Behind Palumbo's 28 Points

KING'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FACING SALISBURY

ARLINGTON, VA -- Jenna Palumbo netted a game-high 28 points to lead the King's College women's basketball team to a 76-69 victory over Salisbury University in the second-round of the eight-team Marymount Tip-Off Classic Saturday in Arlington, Va.

With the win, King's improved to 1-1 on the year while Salisbury fell to 0-2.

King's built a 17-point lead when the Lady Monarchs raced out to a 26-9 advantage with 8:10 remaining in the first half after Kaitlyn Fiorino made four consecutive foul shots.

Salisbury would chip away and cut the lead to 36-29 with 0:37 on the clock after a lay-up by Lindsay Martin. King's would use one-of-two foul shots by Elyssa Nieddu at 0:19 as the Lady Monarchs took a 37-29 lead into the break.

In the second half King's would stretch the lead back up to 11 points on a Palumbo three-pointer with 17:56 remaining. Salisbury, however would respond with a 15-6 run to take a 44-43 lead with 14:01 left on a basket by Christina Klamp.

The Lady Monarchs would finally take the lead for good when Lauren Kendra scored and Fiorino followed with a three-pointer to give King's a 54-50 lead with 10:00 remaining.

After Palumbo netted a three-pointer, then followed with a short jumper, Kendra added a pair of foul shots to give eth Lady Monarchs a 64-55 lead with 7:04 left. Salisbury would draw no closer than five points the rest of the way.

Palumbo finished with 28 points on 10-of-14 shooting and 6-of-9 from long range. Fiorino was outstanding as well with 19 points, including three three-pointers. Kendra contributed with 10 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.

Martin and Janay Johnson led Salisbury with 1 points each.

King's will now play Gettysburg College Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in the fifth-and-sixth place game.
