CASE SUMMARY
Opportunity will be the defining theme for the King's College women's basketball team as they enter the 2026-27 season under head coach Catilin Hadzimichalis in her tenth season at the helm of the Monarchs.
Â
After saying goodbye to a large graduating class, King's enters a new chapter with a roster full of players ready to embrace expanded responsibilities and see who will emerge as the next generation of playmakers.
Â
Hadzimichalis noted that there would be "lots of opportunities for the roster to prove themselves due to a large graduating class."
INITIAL ASSESSMENT
The Monarchs were selected tied for seventh in the 2026-27 MAC Freedom Women's Basketball Preseason Poll, which was voted on by the conference's head coaches.
Â
DeSales topped the poll with 63 points and seven first-place votes, followed by Misericordia (52) and two first-place votes, Lebanon Valley (48), Stevens (44), Arcadia (41), Delaware Valley (29), King's (17), FDU-Florham (17), and Marywood (13).
Â
With much of the conference replacing key contributors from a season ago, King's views the season as an opportunity to define its identity and grow into new roles as the year unfolds.
Â
Â
PROGRAM OUTLOOK
Several Monarchs are expected to play important roles as the team navigates a season filled with new opportunities.
Â
Forward
Claire Aufiero enters the campaign after stepping into a larger leadership role within the program and appears poised for a breakout season. Guard
Gabby Marsola has embraced her own leadership responsibilities while dedicating significant time to her development throughout the offseason.
Taylor Hough also returns at guard after gaining lots of experience last season and putting in considerable work during the offseason. She will look to take on a bigger role in the King's backcourt.
Â
The Monarchs are also excited about newcomer
Kasey Weimer, whose experience in a successful high school program could allow her to make an impact early in her collegiate career.
Â
Together, that blend of leadership, experience, and fresh talent gives King's a foundation upon which to build throughout the season.
Â
Â
MONARCH NOTES
The Monarchs expect their success to be rooted in team-oriented basketball.
"We're going to rely on strong team defense and pace," Hadzimichalis said. "We have a great opportunity where on any given night a different player can step up."
Â
That versatility reflects the confidence the coaching staff has in the roster's overall depth and willingness to embrace different roles.
Â
Leadership has also been a major point of emphasis throughout the offseason.
"Our captains have put their stamp on the program early," Hadzimichalis said. "They truly are building on the tradition of strong leadership set by many great Monarch WBB players before them."
Â
Â
THE ROAD AHEAD
One of the most intriguing aspects of the upcoming season extends beyond King's roster.
Â
According to Hadzimichalis, much of the MAC Freedom enters the season looking to replace talented graduating players, creating an environment where new contributors across the conference will have opportunities to emerge.
Â
"The conference overall graduated a talented senior class, so it should be fun to see how roles are filled," Hadzimichalis said.
Â
As conference play unfolds, the Monarchs hope to be among the teams that successfully capitalize on those opportunities.
Â
Â
MISSION STATEMENT
For Hadzimichalis, the season centers on embracing change and continuing to strengthen the team's identity.
"Everyone on the roster will be stepping into new roles, so we have a great opportunity to further lean into our identity," Hadzimichalis said.
Â
That mindset has shaped the team's approach throughout the offseason and serves as a reminder that growth often comes from embracing new challenges.
Â
With leadership emerging throughout the roster, a commitment to defensive intensity, and an opportunity for players to expand their impact, the Monarchs enter the 2026-27 season eager to write the next chapter of King's women's basketball.
