King's Women Fall to Widener 2nd Half Surge

KING'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO WIDENER

WILKES-BARRE -- Visiting Widener University scored 55 second-half points to overcome an 11-point halftime deficit as the Pride posted an 85-81 victory over host King's College in a non-conference women's basketball matchup Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win, Widener improved to 4-3 on the year while King's fell to 5-4.

King's opened a 41-30 halftime lead behind the play of Jessica Paettie score scored 19 of her career0high 26 points in the opening stanza.

In the second half, however, Widener cane out with a 27-14 surge and took a 57-55 lead with 12:00 remaining on a three-pointer by Barbara Fleming. The Pride would extend the lead to 77-69 on a bucket by Becky Tyler with 5:24 left, but King's would counter with a 12-4 spurt to tie the score at 81-81 on a three-pointer from Lauren Kendra with 0:56 remaining.

They would be the last points for King's as Widener scored their final seven points from the foul line to walk away with the victory.

Paettie was 10-of-18 from the field and 5-of-7 form three-point range for King's. Kaitlyn Fiorino added 25 points for the Lady Monarchs of 9-of-13 shooting while Jenna Palumbo netted 12 for the Lady Monarchs.

Widener placed five players in double-figures, led by Rayne Reber who scored all of her 22 points in the second half. Fleming followed with 18 points while Tyler netted 14 points.

King's, which played without second-team pre-season all-American center Andrea Hochstuhl and power forwards Krystina Durako and Sarah O'Doherty, who are sidelined with injuries, will be idle until competing in the Caribbean Shootout in Cancun, Mexico December 20-21. There, King's will face defending Division III national champion DePauw University and LaVerne University.
