King's, Albright Advance to Lady Monarch Classic Title Game

KING'S OVER POWERS RUTGERS-CAMDEN 68-42, WILL FACE ALBRIGHT IN TITLE GAME
 
WILKES-BARRE – The King's College women's basketball team jumped out to a 19-1 lead and never looked back, en route to a 68-42 victory over Rutgers-Camden University in the opening round of the Lady Monarch Classic Saturday in Scandlon Gym.
 
With the win, King's improved to 4-6 on the year while advancing to the tournament final set for Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against Albright College.  Rutgers-Camden, which is coached by former King's standout Katie Bowes, slipped to 0-9 on the year and will meet Susquehanna University in the consolation game at 12:00 noon.

King's started the scoring run early, going on a 12-0 run before Karima Blackwell knocked down a free throw for Camden's first score of the game at 13:18. King's then held the Lady Raptors to just 13 more points for the rest of the first half. The Lady Monarchs capitalized on Raptor errors, scoring 13 points from turnovers in the first half.
 
After going into the locker room with a 37-14 lead, King's went deep into the bench, with 11 different Monarchs scoring. Rutgers Camden did not give up, however, doubling their total points in the second half with 28. Freshman guard Paige Carlin, who posted 15 points and eight rebounds, gave King's its largest lead of the game at 28 with 10:50 left to play in the second half.
 
Three Monarchs found double-digits in scoring, with Carlin leading the way. Senior guard Kaitlyn Fiorino picked up 14 points, including four three-pointers. Lynott recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Several King's players chipped in rebounds, including junior forward Krystina Durako, who grabbed eight. Much of the offense was run through the hands of Brittany Muscatell, who lead both teams in assists with eight. Freshman guard Nina Magan lead the bench rotation in scoring with seven points. The Raptors were paced by Blackwell, who put up 15 points and snagged nine rebounds.
 
As a team, King's shot 35.2 (25-71) percent from the field and knocked down five three pointers. The Monarchs also grabbed 54 total rebounds, including 24 on offense to keep the scoring chances alive.

ALBRIGHT ADVANCES TO TITLE GAME OF LADY MONARCH CLASSIC WITH 74-54 WIN OVER SUSQUEHANNA
 
WILKES-BARRE -- Bre Dillon paced all scorers with 19 points to lead Albright College to a 74-54 victory over Susquehanna University at the Lady Monarch Classic Saturday at King's College, Wilkes-Barre.

Albright (7-4) built a 35-21 lead at the half and was never threatened in the final stanza as the lady Lions led by as many as 28 points.

Dillon was 7-of-14 from the floor and added three assists and three steals.  Annie McMahon followed with 14 points and eight rebounds while Jessica McGinness tallied 12 points with four rebounds.

Susquehanna (8-3) was led by Jennifer Butts with 13 points while Jessica Zingarelli netted 10.
 
Alright will play host King's in the championship game Sunday at 2:00 p.m. while Susquehanna will face Rutgers-Camden in the 12:00 p.m. consolation game.
