CARLIN NETS CAREER-HIGH 23 AS KING'S DOWNS RUTGERS-CAMDEN, 77-58
CAMDEN, NJ -- Sophomore forward Paige Carlin scored a career-high 23 points to power the King's College women's basketball team to a 77-58 road win over Rutgers-Camden University Tuesday in Camden, NJ.
With the win, King's improved to 4-4 on the year while Rutgers-Camden fell to 2-5.
King's trailed 24-18 but a 7-0 run enabled the Lady Monarchs to take their first lead of the game. After the Scarlet Raptors recaptured the lead at 26-25, Carlin gave King's lead for good by converting a traditional three-point play as the Lady Monarchs closed out the half with a 10-2 surge to go into the locker room with a 35-28 advantage. Carlin netted 13 first-half points to pace King's while Brittany Muscatell added nine.
King's slowly stretched the lad in the second half and used an inside basket from Julianna Lynott, one-of-two foul shots by Lindsay Atchison, and two more fouls shots from Muscatell to build a 17-point lead at 67-50 with 4:40 remaining in the contest.
After Rutgers-Camden trimmed the lead to 13-points with 3:47 left, the Lady Monarchs closed out the game with a 10-4 run to put the game away.
Carlin was 8-of-11 from the field and 6-of-10 from the foul line while adding four rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Muscatell finished the game with 18 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals while Celia Rader came off the bench to contribute 10 points and three assists. Lynott tallied six points and seven boards while Abby Malloy and Atchison also chipped in with six points each.
Rutgers-Camden, which is coached by 2003 King's graduate Kate Bowes, was led by Regina Ondah with 19 points and 16 rebounds while Karima Blackwell and Brittany Turner followed with 17 and 13 points respectively.
King's returns to action on Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. contest at Lycoming College in Williamsport.
