WILKES-BARRE – The King's College women's basketball team placed four players in double-figures and the Lady Monarchs moved into a second-place tie in the Freedom Conference standings with a gutty 64-59 victory over visiting Misericordia University Wednesday night in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win, King's improved to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in league play while Misericordia slipped to 8-7 and 4-2 in Freedom games, suffering their second straight conference defeat.

After taking a 30-26 lead  into the half-time break, the Lady Monarchs inches away in the second stanza as five straight points from Julianna Lynott gave King's a 37-29 lead with 16:25 left in the contest.  Misericordia fought back and drew to within 42-41 on one-of-two foul shots from Jesse Robinson with 11L41 to go.  After a King's miss, the Cougars took their first lead of the game when Robinson converted a three-point play, giving Misericordia a 44-42 advantage with 11:02 remaining.

King's countered and used two three-pointers by Megan Rigous and another by Paige Carlin to take a 51-46 lead with 9:09 to play. Misericordia closed to within 51-50 on a jumper by Tyann McDaniel at 7:59, but the Lady Monarchs responded with a jumper from Rigous and a three-pointer by Brittany Muscatell to build a 56-50 lead with 7:02 to play.

After the Cougars again battled back to cut the lead to 56-54 on one-of-two foul shots by Christine Marks, King's forged ahead with an inside bucket by Lynott and a three-pointer from Rigous to push the score to 61-54 with 3:23 on the clock.  The Cougars closed to within four points on three occasions but the Lady Monarchs made  3-of-5 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Lynott led King's with 15 points and 16 rebounds while Rigous came off the bench to score 13 points. Muscatell added 12 points and eight assists while Carlin chipped in with 11 points and three assists.
