KING'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HOSTING 15TH ANNUAL MEET THE PLAYERS DAY ON SUNDAY

WILKES-BARRE – The King's College women's basketball program will host its 15th annual “Meet the Players Day” with the Red vs. White Game Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gymnasium. The event is open to the public free of charge.

For the first time ever, fans who cannot attend the game but want to follow the action can do so on LiveStats at the following link:  http://www.sidearmstats.com/kings/wbball/index.htm

The annual event will allow family friends, fans, and alumni the opportunity to get a “first look” at the Lady Monarchs as the team plays an intra-squad scrimmage as part of its preparation for the 2010-11 campaign. King's will be led by sixth-year head coach Brian Donoghue.

King's will feature a squad mixed with veteran and inexperienced players but lacks a single senior player on the squad.  Leading the way are junior team captains Paige Carlin Scotrun/Pocono Mountain East) and Brittany Muscatell (Lambertville, NJ/Immaculata). A 5-9 guard, Carlin earned second-team All-Freedom Conference honors last season after averaging 11.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per-game.  A 5-7 point-guard, Muscatell, who missed the last five games with an injury last season, ended her sophomore year averaging 7.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and

3.8 assists.

Also returning to King's lineup is sophomore guard Katlin Michaels (Berwick/Berwick). A year ago Michaels suffered a torn ACL in the eighth game of the year and missed the remainder of her rookie campaign. Michaels, who averaged 10.1 points and 4.3 rebounds, has been granted an NCAA medical redshirt and retains freshman eligibility although she is a sophomore in class standing.

Another backcourt returnee is sophomore guard Celia Rader (Scranton/Scranton Prep) who also battled her shared of physical ailments, including mononucleosis, that forced her to miss 11 games. In the games she did play, Rader was solid, averaging 9.2 points with 18 three-pointers.

Sophomore forward Lindsay Atchison (Green Village, NJ/Chatham), who started 17-of-25 games, looks to build upon the improvement she made when she finished the season averaging 4.9 points and 4.4 rebounds. Junior guard Abby Malloy (Frackville/Marian Catholic) started 20-of-25 games contributed 3.9 points and 2.1 boards. Junior guard Nina Magan Bethlehem/Saucon Valley), who missed seven games with a separated shoulder, hope off-season surgery will lead to a healthy return and improvement over her 2.6 points per-game average.

Sophomore forward Molly Dahl (Garrison, NY/Walter Panas), who played in all 25 games as a freshman,  is expected to see an increased role in the paint this season and will be counted on to improve on her 2.6 points and 2.2 rebounds per-game averages.

Six newcomers hope to bolster King's depth and contribute to the team's success. Heading the list of newbies is junior guard-forward Samantha Simcox (Sinking Spring/Wilson West Lawn), a transfer from cross-town rival Wilkes University. As a freshman at Wilkes two years ago, Simcox averaged 9.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per-game, including a career-high 28-points against King's. After sitting out her sophomore year, Simcox elected to transfer to King's where she is a junior academically but a sophomore eligibility-wise.

Other newcomers looking to make their presence felt include freshman guard Carissa Gegaris (Mountain Top/Crestwood), freshman guard-forward Meagan Boccio (Milford/Delaware Valley), sophomore walk-on guard Kyley Henry (Mountain Top/Crestwood), and freshmen forwards Jessica McHugh (Delran, NJ/Delran) and Rhea Jancheson (Huntington, NY/Elwood-John Glenn).

In the Red vs. White game, King's  Red team will consist of Carlin, Muscatell, Atchison, Magan, Boccio, Gegaris, and McHugh.  The King's White team will feature Michaels, Rader, Malloy, Dahl, Simcox, Jancheson, and Henry.
