KING'S FIELD HOCKEY DOMINATES ALBRIGHT, 8-2
WILKES-BARRE – Jenera Quinones registered a hat trick as her three-goal performance led the King's College field hockey team to a 7-2 victory over visiting Albright College in a non-conference field hockey matchup Thursday night at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win, King's improved to 14-3 on the year while Albright fell to 9-10. The Lady Monarchs scoring outage was their highest of the season surpassing the six goals the team score against rival Wilkes on October 20.
King's took a 1-0 lead just 3:39 into the game when Jenera Quinones drilled a shot from just inside the top of the circle inside the right post.
Quinones made it a 2-0 game at 14:31 when she worked her way through three defenders and flicked a shot into the right side of the net.
Albright cut the lead to 2-1 on its first shot of the game at 20:06 when Gia Boscola scored on a drive from just inside the circle following a penalty corner.
King's countered at 28:08 when Calli Berryman tipped in a feed from Shelby Trenge inside the right post.
In the second half the Lady Monarchs quickly padded the lead when Quinones tallied her third goal of the game with a rocket from the right wing just 2:24 into the period, upping the score to 4-1.
Albright answered when Boscola tallied her second goal off an assist from Kayla Marshall at the 43:34 mark, bringing the Lions to within 4-2.
The Lady Monarchs, however, responded when Trenge scored unassisted at 46:15 and 24:08 Danielle Terracciano struck net off a Berryman assist just 036 later to push the 6-2.
The lead swelled to 7-2 when Shawna Walp converted a penalty stroke at 50:33 as King's struck for three goals over a 3:32 span. King's would add another goal when Kim Howantiz made good on an assist from Amanda Lescowitch on a penalty corner with 8:12 to play.
King's held a 4-2 lead in the second half before the Lady Monarchs exploded for three goals in a 3:32 span to put the game away.
King's held a dominating 24-11 advantage in shots while Albright owned a 15-7 lead in penalty corners, many coming in the final five minutes against King's reserves.
Erin McGinley made four saves for King's while Albright keeper Magruerite DeLucas posted seven stops.
King's returns to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Montclair State University in Upper Montclair, NJ.
