KING'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL RALLIES PAST PITT-BRADFORD

SELINSGROVE – The King's College women's basketball team rallied from a 13-point deficit as the Lady Monarchs posted a 60-54 victory over Pitt-Bradford in the opening round of the Pepsi/Weis Markets Invitational Tournament Saturday at Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove.
With the win, King's improved to 1-1 on the year while advancing to the championship game on Sunday where the Lady Monarchs will face host Susquehanna in the title game.
King's trailed 26-23 at the half and allowed the Lions to stretch the lead to 39-26 with 17:08 remaining on a three-pointer by Maria Costanza.
The Lady Monarchs used back-to back three-pointers by Paige Carlin and Lindsay Atchison to close to 39-32, but Maggie Dalton answered for the Lions with a trey of her own to push the score to 42-32 with 15:11 to play.
King's countered with a 14-4 run and tied the score at 46-46 with 10:45 to play after another three-pointer from Atchison and a three-pointer and subsequent jumper, both by Celia Rader.
Neither team would scored again for nearly three minutes, but the Lady Monarchs took their first lead of the second half when Rader made two foul shots with 7:46 to go as King's went up 48-46. After a Pitt-Bradford miss, Brittany Muscatell scored on a driving lay-up with 6:01 on the clock to push the score to 50-46.
Two straight lay-ups by Rader and a pair of foul shots from Muscatell put the Lady Monarchs on top 56-48 with 2:15 remaining. After a Lion bucket at the 1:34 mark, Pitt-Bradford began to foul. King's responded by converting 4-of-5 charity tosses down the stretch, two from Katlin Michaels at the 1:12 mark and two more from Molly Dahl with 0:21 to play which produced the final points of the game, giving the Lady Monarchs a 60-54 victory.
Rader finished with a team-high 16 points, including 11 in the second half, with five steals while Dahl tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Samantha Simcox scored seven points off the bench while Muscatell contributed six points and four assists while Michaels added six points and three assists. Atchison chipped in with six points, 10 rebounds, and four steals while Carlin tallied five points and five rebounds.
King's, which was just 10-of-21 from the foul line in its season opening loss to Neumann on Thursday, fared much better at the charity stripe against Pitt-Bradford, going 18-24 in the game.
The Lions had just six players score in the game. Maggie Dalton led Pitt-Bradford with 12 points
while Holly Rapp followed with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Whitney Kline contributed 10 points while Danielle Zeamer chipped in with nine points and 11 boards.
Following Sunday's title game, King's will return to the court on Tuesday when the Lady Monarchs travel to face the University of Scranton at 7:00 p.m. in the first meeting between the teams since the 2006-07 season.
