LADY MONARCHS POST 62-44 VICTORY OVER RUTGERS-CAMDEN
WILKES-BARRE – Celia Rader scored 16 of her game-high 20 points in the second half to power the King's College women's basketball team to a 62-44 victory over visiting Rutgers-Camden University Tuesday in Scandlon Gym.
With the win, King's improved to 5-3 on the year while Rutgers-Camden fell to 2-5.
King's struggled offensively in the first half and, despite trailing only once in the game (3-0), managed only a 26-21 lead at the break.
In the second stanza, the Scarlet Raptors continued to hang around and the Lady Monarchs led 39-35 with 11:01 left in the game. But Rader drained back-to-back three-pointers as the Lady Monarchs took a 45-37 advantage with 9:30 left. After a Samantha Bragg bucket for Rutgers-Camden, Rader made good on a pair of foul shots and Samantha Simcox scored on an offensive rebound to push the lead to 49-39 with 6:30 to go. Following a driving lay-up by Brittany Turner of the Scarlet Raptors, Kyley Henry drained a three-pointer, followed by Rader who canned her fourth shot from long range as the Lady Monarch lead grew to 55-41 with 5:22 on the clock.
The teams went nearly three minutes without scoring before Bragg made one-of-two foul shots for Rutgers-Camden. But Katlin Michaels scored on a driving layup, then added two fouls shots following a Rutgers-Camden miss as King's lead swelled to 59-42 with 1:46 remaining.
Rader followed with one-of-two foul shots and Jessica McHugh added a bucket down low with 0:26 left as King's built its biggest lead of the game at 62-43. Alyce Milakovic made one-of-two free throws for the Scarlet Raptors with 0:11 to go to being the game to its final score.
Rader led all scorers by making 4-of-6 shots from three-point range and converting 8-of-10 from the foul line with three assists. Michaels followed with 14 points, four rebounds and four steals while Lindsay Atchison contributed six points and two rebounds. Brittany Muscatell added five points, nine rebounds, and four assists while Molly Dahl chipped in with four points and eight boards.
Turner and Milakovic led Rutgers-Camden with 11 points each while Bragg added nine.
King's returns to the hardwood Thursday when the Lady Monarchs host Lycoming College at 7:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gym.
