WOMEN'S LACROSSE EDGED BY MISERICORDIA 17-15
DALLAS -- Emily Foley scored seven goal and added four assists as the host Misericordia University women's lacrosse team posted a 17-15 victory over King's College in a Middle Atlantic Conference matchup Tuesday in Dallas.
With the win, Misericordia improved to 4-10 overall and 3-8 in conference play while King's fell to 0-15 and 0-10
Misericordia raved out to a 4-0 lead, but King's scored four of the next five goals to cut the lead to 5-4 after a Colleen Davis marker with 14:33 remaining in the opening half After the teams traded goals for the next 12 minutes, the Cougars took a 8-6 lead when Brittany Schorr struck net with 1:58 remaining in the half. The Lady Monarchs used a goal from Allison Gournial goal at the 0:52 mark as King's trailed 8-7 at the break.
In the second half, The Cougars scored three of the first four goals to up the advantage to 11-8, but the Lady Monarchs countered with three straight goals from Sarah O'Dougherty, Krystina Villarreal, and Chelsea Manes to give King's their first lead of the game at 12-11 with 19:51 left in the contest.
After Misericorda scored three unanswered goal to recature the lead 14-12, King's used goals by Manes and Melissa D'Aniello to knot the game at 14-14 with 12:12 remaining.
Misericordia responded with three straight scores, two coming from Foley to give the Cougars a 17-15 lead with 8:27 to play. King's responded with a goal from Villarreal at 3:12 and another by Manes with 2:23 left. The Lady Monarchs would get no closer however as the Cougars held on for the victory.
King's outshot Misericordia 35-31 and each team compiled 15 ground balls. The Cougars held a 21-13 advantage in draws.
Manes led King's with three goals and three assists while Villarreal followed with three goals and two assists. Gourniak and O'Dougherty added two goals apiece. Davis, D'Aniello, and Shannon Ellis scored one goal each for the Lady Monarchs. Megan Mundy, a regular defensive starter playing in place of injured Rebecca Abruzzese, made seven saves in her first career start
King's will return to action Thursday when the Lady Monarchs host Widener University at 4:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
